OK, one of my friends asked me what I was really looking for. This prompted me to do some engineering analysis and come up with a preference list. Here is what I came up with.... and remember that this is a guideline, not a hard and fast set of rules.

Most important considerations (in order)

1. Exterior color (30%)
2. Interior color (15%)
3. Air Conditioning (15%)
4. Engine option (10%)
5. Power steering (7.5%)
6. Power brakes (7.5%)
7. Year of car (5%)
8. Rally / optional wheels (5%)
9. Body Style (2.5%)
10. Transmission option (2.5%)

Colors (in order of preference) - weight factor (30% exterior, 15% interior)
1. Meduim Blue (Nassau, Marina) (Interior blue, white, black)
2. Silver Blue (Interior dark blue, black)
3. Silver (Interior Red, Silver, dark blue, no black)
4. Black (Interior red, blue, sliver, no black)
5. Red (interior tan, white, red, silver, no black)
6. White (interior red, blue, silver, no black)
7. Yellow (Interior tan, black)
8. Goodwood Green (tan, black)

9. Dark Blue (Elkhart, Laguna) - not an option
10. Tan - not an option
11. Maroon - not an option
12. Blue Grey (Lynndale) - not an option

Comfort options (in order of preference) (weight factor varies)

1. A/C (weight factor 15%)
2. Power steering (weight factor 7.5%)
3. Power brakes (weight factor 7.5%)
4. Power Windows (weight factor 0%)
5. Telescope column (weight factor 0%)
6. Teak steering wheel (weight factor 0%)

Engine options (in order of preference) (weight factor 10%)
No big block cars

1. 300 hp 327
2. 350 hp 327
3. 250 hp 327
4. 365 hp 327
5. 340 hp 327
6. 375 hp 327 (FI)
7. 360 hp 327 (FI)

Years (In order of preference) - weight factor (5%)

1. 1965
2. 1967
3. 1966
4. 1964
5. 1963

Body style (in order of preference) (weight factor 2.5%)
1. Convertible (two top cars OK but not mandatory)
2. Coupe

Transmission options (in order of preference) (weight factor 2.5%)

1. 4 speed
2. Automatic
3. 3 speed

Wheels (in order of preference) (weigh factor varies)

1. Factory rally wheels (weight factor 5%)
2. Knock off / bolt on wheels (aftermarket OK) (weight factor 5%)
3. Factory steel wheels and hubcaps (weight factor 0%)

Clear as mud now. Yep, looks like it to me as well.

You are trying to quantify an emotional subjective preference. Good luck with that!

You can't always find the complete package all together in the same place at the same time. Tall beautiful limber blondes with beauty, brains, and money are pretty d@mn rare!

My suggestion would be to pick 3 different year cars in three different color and drivetrain options and advertise/look for those cars. Why accept anything less than your third choice for a dream car? Don't even consider options in the mix such as P.S. because those things can be added for pretty much the same price as they cost in an existing car.

These are old cars. With your mind set your not going to get your perfect vehicle. It's not out there. Just keep looking and you will settle on something that's right for you. Either that or contract a Corvette shop to build your exact car but be prepared for sticker shock.
I want Gisele Bundchen but she's not available. Maybe someone can build me one.
I'll go with what my dad would tell me when I said I wanted something and I wasn't going to get it, "how does it feel to want".

Definitely you're **** enough to be a classic corvette owner. On my list color was last concern. All the mid year colors are sublime. These cars are so difficult to find in undamaged unmolested condition that the color became insignificant to me. I wanted upscale engine, no replaced body panels, and no history of horror show "improvements". Found a convertible in green and coupe in white that fit the bill. Love them both to death.

Action in the absence of data is just spinning wheels. I take action, first to analyze the data, understand what it is telling me, and then implement to corrective solutions.

No doubt, and thanks for the complement.

I had already made an assumption (which I did not list since the thread was already plenty long enough) that a basic criteria was a decent solid unmolested body. And yes, that is a subjective term. I eliminated cars with fender flares, one piece front clips, major body damage, rust issues, etc.

The one thing I can say about that 64 in Chicago is that the body was beautiful, perhaps even pristine. And I am talking about in the areas that you normally could not see. The bonding strips were awesome, both front fenders had the little ripple right where is is supposed to be.

I honestly expect that car to get turned into a resto-mod. Beautiful solid body, and a drive train and chassis that isn't worth a lot of money.

On each purchase I had to compromise on some aspect of my per-conceived notion of perfection. If you can't do that then you'll save a lot of money because you'll never buy a car.
