I wanted a Ferrari 348
But I wound up with a red 2001 C5-Z06 and loving it!
I purchased the car from a local retired couple with 80K kilometers on it. I'm using it a lot on the Area27 track, chasing my wife in her C7.
The car had C5 sized tires, replaced appropriate Eagle F1's and front brakes appropriate for the track. Changed all the fluids, including the tranny, dif and the clutch, 660F Stop Tech, because clutch pedal wouldn't swing back after a hot track session.
What kind of maintenance issues can I expect?

I would have the clutch fluid flushed out at the dealership properly every year. It cost about 80 dollars and keeps the pedal from sticking to the floor.
That was my only issue with my last c5 z06 with 65k miles...
That sticking clutch pedal was a pain in the ***.
Following GM guidelines for my c6 manual z51 I have the dealership flush the clutch fluid every year or two.
110k miles since new and never a sticking clutch pedal...
Enjoy

Maintenance costs are probably 1/4 of the cost of the Ferrari, maybe even less. I would love to own an F car some day too but a c5z is a lot more affordable right now. I love the z though, it's a whole lot of performance for the $$.

You can expect having a great time on track, brake rotors (by Napa cheeps) go with less sticky tires (you will still be able to lap faster then most) so as to not over tax brakes/suspension and keep tire cost low. Good brake pads, brake fluid (witch you have done). Enjoy the ride.
Mark.
PS, I'v owned two F cars, 365, and 355. Both were great the Daytona was trouble free, the F355 was a pain.

I had a Ferrari 348 and sold it to get my C5 convertible. Except for sound, leather, and "Ferrari" everywhere, the C5 is a better performing car. I don't miss the 348, although some love it. Do some research on FerrariChat.com.

One guys uses a turkey baster to suck out as much fluid out of the reservoir as he can and tops it up again. Does this every couple of runs....
Another guy had the car modified, installed a proper drain, so he can properly flush the fluid.

All Ferraris: be aware of recent timing belts change. 355s have lots of problems (but they are beautiful). Consider a 360. Of course it depends on budget. I have a 550 now, but I still enjoy the Corvette.

Ferraris are lovely cars, sound great, look great ... my good friend has a Modena, he let me drive it, and it was amazing .. love that Chrome gait manual shifter.. engine sounds amazing.. BUT wait until the running costs roll in.. I have seen some of the bills and amounts for parts!!!! my god ouch!
I always wanted a Porsche Turbo .. but passed for same reason.. solid cars and I love them.. but parts are very expensive.. mind you they are going up in value a lot now.. but running them as a weekend toy will cost..
I'm in process of buying a boosted Z! moving from a 99 C5 Vert Auto to this hoping to close deal tomorrow.. I'm very excited after being out in it today ( understatement)

I've been an aircraft owner for about 20 years. Just pride of ownership of our Cessna 177 can amount to $5K/year, and that's with out flying it. Last year's annual was about $10K.... So a classic Ferrari like the 348 doesn't really $care me. But the newer ones with all their electronics etc I would rule out for maintenance costs.

Was looking for a 911 Turbo or a 360 Modena initially. When taking "panache" out of the equation, the C5Z made much more sense. More reliable, easier/less expensive to maintain, and better performance all at a lower purchase price. The C5Z just made too much sense to buy over those cars. Also, design is huge to me, and the C5, especially C5Z has a timeless design.

It's amazing what kind of performance these cars offer for the money, they outperform other sports cars of the time that cost 2,3 or 4x as much. I'd love a nice used F car someday too but the repair costs sound pretty scary.

I had a 355, manual trans car and it was junk on more levels than I have time to type, and the 348 I am sure is worse. C5Z was a better car in nearly every way. Like stated above, 360 or new, nothing older unless you go Testarossa or get into crazy money Ferrari's.

you're going to regret those F1's
wait about 18 months
then see what you think of the traction.
i'm not sure i've ever came across a tire that falls off so fast age wise with very few heat cycles
