Slow Car Fast VS Fast Car Slow
Today we look at 2 different types of cars to drive on the street, please keep in mind we are talking about street driving.
Also theoretically you own both of these cars so its not a own one or the other situation.
A 250-350hp car:
-Slam through gears
-Bounce off rev limiter without loss of control
-Hitting speeds around 100 at the top of 4th/low5th
-Breaking the wheels loose without loss of control
A 400-500hp car:
-Slam through 1 gear(1st to 2nd)
-Bouncing off rev limiter can cause loss of control
-Hitting speeds around 100 at the top of 2nd
-Breaking the wheels loose can cause loss of control
Side note, everyone and their grandma wants to race you and honestly at this point every other car is way below your league so its not even worth your gas or time.
With all of this being said, which style do you prefer and why?

I personally prefer a slow car fast on the street.
Watching the rpms climb and hearing the engine screaming as I slam my gears from 1st->2nd->3rd->4th is really exciting and puts a big smile on my face, without having to speed and putting myself or anyone else in danger.
Just my opinion, looking forward to hear everyone else's stance and their reasoning.

I prefer the fast car that I can drive like a grannie. There is something about having the power and not having to use it that is appealing to me.

To answer your question, I prefer to have developed my driving skills so that breaking the tires loose or hitting the rev limiter does not cause me to lose control in either situation. Practice makes perfect.

Funny you should bring this up, I actually am in this exact situation. I have a 13 GS 6MN and a 86 Fiero V6 4MN. On the street the Fiero is an absolute blast to drive, I can thrash the snot out of it without worrying about getting arrested. While it has nowhere near 250 HP (I am guessing around half that now) but will still do 115 ish, handles like it is on rails, gets 20 + MPG, and looks like nothing else on the road. The fact that I bought it for the amount of five monthly payments on the GS was a plus as well.
Although I did drive the GS to work last night and it was nice to have all that effortless power on tap............I guess it is good to have choices in life !

What does this have to do with C6s??
What do you think the people on CORVETTE FORUM are going to pick?
Maybe the OP is high or something? Maybe he's fatally high. GASP!! What does that even mean?
The only option is to "slam through gears" with you?? Driving like an *** is still driving like an *** if you're in a less capable car.
I can see it now, "sorry i killed your kids, but faster cars exist though!!"

Ironically the GS gives me more enjoyment on the tight mountain back roads due to its handling balance and incredible grip rather than its speed. It has a lot of power, but it comes on very smoothly and the engine doesn't rev freely like a small displacement 4cyl does so you have to give it real deliberate blips for heal/toe rev matching. This car is not my favorite highway cruiser either. But on the tight technical backroads though, it's pure joy. Living in the mountains, I like the low end torque also. Really, for the kind of driving I do, this car needed nothing but tires. It has good trans gearing, plenty of torque and plenty of grip.
Even though I know it's slower, the WRX 'feels' quicker on the highways and big sweepers due to the turbo and ironically due to the lack of low end torque. You get nothing off the line and then it punches you hard when the boost kicks in. It's the same way on the highway when you punch it to pass someone. It's addicting. That engine just loves to rev too. I love heel/toe rev matching in that car. It's not too bad in the handling department with just sway bars and wide 255mm performance summer tires, but it understeers when you push it hard in the tight corners. It the less tight and technical stuff AWD lets you stomp on it in the corners like a FWD to pull you through. The AWD with snow tires is a blast in the snow too.

I think most people on the CORVETTE FORUM face this same predicament like I myself do.
I am at work so sadly not intoxicated.
A Fatal Stoner is a play on words i made while in high-school for my online alias some years ago, you see stoners were stereotyped as hippies and hippies played a big role in the peace movement during the Vietnam war. So a fatal stoner would be an oxymoron. Its just a play on words no need to get all hurt about it.
No of course im not talking about slamming thru gears on every road I just mean in general street driving you eventually get on a highway with speedlimits of 70+ or even slamming through a few gears to get up to speed on a 55 limit... Not doing it everytime but when it is possible and safe to do so then yes... I just figured driving safe was implied...
Also I do not consider slamming through gears driving like an *** but that is your opinion and I respect it

The police have a name for this. It's called "Excessive Acceleration," and yes, you can get a ticket for it.

Meh - I can slam through the gears at half throttle . I had rather have the power and not use it than not have the power and want to...

Can't stand to drive my wife's car, no power when you need it.
I do understand the appeal of a slower good handling car, bit I prefer to have more power than needed in any given situation.

Yes if you spin your tires, screech your tires and or create smoke. It is very likely you will get ticketed for this. For the most part if i avoid screeching my tires I can floor it up to the limit and never get pulled over although its completely up to the discretion of the cop its a very vaguely written law. I mean you can get ticketed for speeding without it even being confirmed by radar just if it "looked" like you were speeding

Apparently those officers that carry radars in their car take special courses to be certified in that sort of bullshit. So not every trooper/patrol can carry a radar and issue speeding tickets anyways apparently in those courses they have tests where they view clips of cars speeding and they have to be able to guess the speed of the car within 2mph
Still...thats still total bullshit. I mean if im casually accelerating next to a minivan its going to look like I just pushed the NOS button

Great response and explanation!
Where did you find your 86 Fiero V6 4MN
Ive always been interested in buying an older Z series car from nissan but do not know where to look. The outlets I am aware of are craigslist & ebay
