Default Anyone made the switch from stingray to z06 and realized it wasnt worth it?

As I get closer and closer to my 2lz z06 automatic I find myself wondering am I wasting too much money for power I will never get to use and just get a 2lt Stingray instead and save a ton of money in the process? Chances are good I will never take the car to the drag strip or road course. I do however LOVE brain numbing ACCELERATION. I had a Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle that I got back in 2006 and kept until 2010 when it got stolen. That bike was Limited to 186 mph although I rarely took it past 100. What I did enjoy was the feeling of getting on the gas at 30 mph and before I knew it I was close to 100mph. Any advice?

I doubt you are going to find too many people who spent +$20k and will then admit to themselves that it wasn't worth it, even if, objectively, it wasn't "worth it" for them.

only you can decide, but I refer to the car and driver article 10 best this year the Z did make the cut due to price the grandsport did and the quote was no one missed the supercharger. I live in an area where it gets colder in the winter and did not want the hassle of obtaining non run flat AS tires. I love high hp got the Z-51 instead it is fast enough for the road for me. ymmv

Your post really sums it up. If you like that feeling of knowing that extra power is there, and occasionally being able to use it than why not. But if the extra money is a bit of a strain or can honestly be used elsewhere then perhaps the standard Vette is enough.
You certainly do not want to go into a Z with already having second thoughts.
Tough decision, basically if money is not an issue get it. No way to justify it other than you have the money and you want one.

I could afford a Z06 but why do I want it. I have a 2017 base Stingray convertible and seldom ask the engine for full power. I love the handling and operate with the top down as the weather allows. I would rather trade my cars more often, preferring the latest version over the extra power and higher cost of a Z.

It's a tough answer but the same question applies to every decision we make from taking vacations to TVs to going out to dinner.

Only you can decide what to spend your money on what gives you the biggest smile on your face.

I just traded in a 3lt z51 for a z06. The stingray has plenty of power and is a great car. I really liked the torque and shift improvements I got from the diablo tuner I don't really have a good reason why i traded for the z06. You really need to be careful with it. Way more power than you can use on the street. no 2nd thoughts and it may just come down to wanting the top of line corvette( for about a few more months) with ridiculous power and that I could swing it financially with a really good deal.

I work in the car business and for the most part I see z06 owners usually crawling around well under the speed limit in their cars and its kept in a garage, comes out once a week and is washed and waxed before going back in the garage. Everyone has the right to do what they want with their own money but I feel people like that bought a $80k paper weight just to stare at it in their garage. I plan on driving mine and putting some miles on it whenever possible year round here in florida.

Had the same debate with myself - wanted a Z06 but my adult side told my inner child I really didnt need it - of course I didnt really need a vette either but I let the inner child win by getting a GS vert and said a firm adult no to the Z06.

Well I just made the switch to an '18 Z06 coming from a Grand Sport. The Stingray and Grand Sport have plenty of power, look and do everything well! I too thought...is it worth going to a Z06? There is just something about having the highest performing Corvette to date, even though I will never use it's full capability. As far as price goes, you can exceed the price of a 1LZ Z06 easily with both the Stingray and the Grand Sport by loading them up with the 3LT pkg, comp seats and a long list of other options.

If I smiled any more than I do while driving my 'lowly' Z51, I think my face would break.

There is no way I could honestly say that I would be happy with the base Corvette. Having had previous generation base Corvettes and a C5 Z06, the C7 Z06 is by far worth the money to me. Just my $.02, everyone has their own opinion and wallet size!!

And this is exactly what you will get with a Z06.
You should be very happy with your purchase.

Z06 slam dunk. Unless you can afford a ZR1 and are willing to wait.

Edit: In your circumstances though, I'd skip the Z07 package.

Yes, you make a great point. I have owned five Corvettes over the years and will be purchasing a new 1LT with an automatic. I think part of the attraction is just owning a nice car even if you don't drive it alot.

yes I did.... traded 2017 A8 GS (not Stingray) in on 2017 M7 Z-06 w/ z07 pkg..... I too will never use the power but I got a great deal on the Z-06. My thinking was that since I trade at least every 2 years, that I would recover the difference between the GS & Z-06 when I sell or trade for a new car. Overall, IMHO unless you are going to use the performance of the Z-06, it is not worth the difference in price

I'm been thinking on this too, almost to the point of going with a GS, pretty much the same looks without h=the Supercharger. Might be "smarter".

My advice, if you have not already, would be to drive both a Z06 and a GS or Z51 or base back to back and determine if the other cars have enough for you. It does not take much to get to 100mph in any C7, but only you can decide if the non-Z06 gets you there fast enough.

My commute is different than most I suspect. The fastest speed limit on my way to work is 50mph and most of it is 40-45mph. I rarely see a freeway unless I am taking a trip (my city and neighboring cities are almost all backroads and non-freeway). The Z51 is already overkill for me 95% of the time, but I love the handling and knowing the acceleration is there when I want it.

But everyone is different and the Z06 is, ultimately, a better handling and faster C7 so yeah nothing wrong with wanting one if you got the cash.
