Default Clone Tech2 purchased-Very pleased

Well, after reading hundreds of posts here and elsewhere on these Tech2's I just had to get one. I learned tons from all the guys that have also purchased these from here on CF and thanks to you guys for giving your buying experiences good and bad. Too many names to list here but I'm sure I read every post here concerning these units.

I have my C6, 07 2500 GMC, 09 Cobalt that it will work on. Have another scan tool for our foreign cars.

Surprises were, this thing is bigger than I thought. It's a foot tall by 6" wide. It needs the velcro straps it comes with.
Shipping was a shocker. China to Cincinnati in two days. Ordered it Sunday evening, they processed it quickly, shipped it Monday morning and it was sitting on my front porch today, Wednesday by noon.

I bought without plastic carton. $250.00 total, free ship to USA by DHL.
Tested it on my GMC truck and all seems fine. Connector for older OBD1 as well for 91-95,6 too. Latest software for GM 33.004.

I need to dig up the post on the storage case a member here bought from HF. It looked to be a perfect case for this unit.

The memory card works in either slot, I tried both although the disc says to install in upper slot. It's a tight fight because the spring loaded door doesn't quite open enough for the card to slide in easily. I got it in with a touch of prying. Not a big deal.

Entire purchase process was easy with no problems at all. It is a great scan tool kit for not much money. Time will tell how it holds up long term but from other members reports they are getting years out of them.

Sorry about the lousy pics.

I wanna say it was the aluminum case from HF:
https://www.harborfreight.com/18-in-...ase-62272.html

Which supplier did you get it from? That is what makes me nervous about a purchase like this.

That is the case but the black one. Has better dividers and foam. A few bucks more.

AliExpress, Super Obd Store. Can't shorten link for some reason. As usual there are many vendors there that all look alike.

Store No. 1333007

https://obdsell.aliexpress.com/store...257245271.html

There, that's store main page. Item is 3rd row down on 1st page on right.
That's the one.

I was a little too, but I used a burner Visa card. He would take PayPal also.

Mine programs features fine for later models , programmed my neighbor's new key fobs for his 2013 Silverado this week

Works great on my 2011 coupe ....

Without actual directions on how to use it I sometimes have to hunt around the menus to find what I am looking for or try to "Google"for information but have always been able to figure it out

Dave,

Is this the same one that you purchased previously? Same supplier?

Thanks!

Yes sir ! Looks just like the one posted above

I was able to compare it to "real" tech II and it looks and feels exactly the same . The quality of the unit and all the accessories is unbelievable. If these things are knock off's then somebody did a good job .....

Does this unit read all the other systems, BCM, Transmission, etc? I have a good reader , but only does ECM.

OK, I followed the link and read (broken English) information and it says it is the same unit GM uses, so it should be able to read all the the systems.

For us laymen, what would the benefits of owning one of these be? Just wondering if I should get one since the price seems decent.

Unlike most over the counter readers the Tech II can access and modify all systems . I used it to locate an intermittent misfire that was not happening enough to trigger a CEL but I could feel it at idle

Ended up being a spark plug wire that was to close to the alternator positive cable

I also suffered from the dreaded "shift flair " that plagues all A6 transmissions..drove me crazy . I was able to put the trans into adapt relearn and now the trans shifts fine .

It also allows you to do things that "only a dealer" can do . I can remove the radio Vin theft lock myself , and just this week I programmed my neighbor's new key fobs for him

At $125.00@ hour , one hour minium that my dealer charges this thing has more than paid for itself in a short time

These are THE GM scan tool for GM cars and most trucks only from early OBD1 91-92 up to MOST 2013 OBD2.

They read, clear, help diagnose error codes and problems. They read any control module on the car. Most of the other scan tools only read engine and some ABS codes. I am reading the users manual now to learn just what all it can and can't do.

The GM service manuals always refer to the Tech2 for further diagnosis on any error code whether it be engine, trans, ABS, body, chassis.

The 33.004 GM software is the latest and last update for these tools.
GM is moving to MDI for 2014 and up.

I used high dollar Snap-On scanners all my shop life and while they were top of the line they had some glitches and updates were $800-1000 a shot plus the $3900 to buy the tool in the first place.

But, any scan tool only gives you info and data, YOU have to take that info and data and make the correct repair based on that data. People sometimes think that a scan tool will tell you exactly what the problem is, where it is and how much it cost to fix, not true as you have to be able to use the error data with the troubleshooting tips to plot your repair.

But without these scan tools and you have a 'check engine' lite on you will be throwing darts in the dark as far as wondering what the problem is. The scan tool will guide you on where and what the problem is based on the actual error code # and definition.

It is nearly impossible to correctly diagnose any dash error warning light on any vehicle without a good scan tool.

I believe this is the direct product link:
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...612.0.0.ROyjbU

PayPal is not a payment option however.

If you need the serial to USB cable,

https://www.automationdirect.com/adc...D3BC150F751C27

Driver is here,
http://support.automationdirect.com/.../usbrs232.html

Hence most laptops no longer have a RS232 serial port to plug it into a laptop when you are using TS2000 to say firmware upgrade a module on the car.
Note on TS2000, it runs under XP, so if you want to load TS2000, you will need to VM the machine first, and load windows under a VM running XP as the OS. If TIS2000 came with your clone, then chances are it already cam with a VM to do so.

As for the needed module firmware updates for the car, if you can not find the update file from the web, then GM will sell you a one day subscription to down the needed file from them directly instead.

Thanks Dano, always appreciate seeing your posts on these Corvettes. Since I've had my C6 I have seen the SAH error 2 times and 1 time I felt the unwanted brake apply at low speed pulling up to a gas pump. Strange it happened 1 time and hasn't since but with the Tech2 hopefully I can catch the code or codes before shutdown.

Keep posting with your knowledge Dano, I and I'm sure others appreciate it!
