Default New Addition To The Family

I bought a Corvette Orange 1977 last week and brought it home but I have not done anything with it yet. It has been painted white but has good bones to work with so I think I will take it from its current state to the same as my previous 77 that I have missed since selling it. Here is my 77 target. I'll post pictures of the starting spot soon.

Lots of work from start to finish on this one but we will start this winter.

Thank you for the post. I know I am going to be needing an antennae and wire to see if I can get the radio working again. Interior changes have to be assessed and a plan of attack needs to be developed.

I'll get the car up on the lift soon and give it a thorough inspection. If anyone out there that knows me would like to look the car over with me and do an inspection with me to find what is good, and not so good, on the car, let me know. Be glad to use this one to help folks learn more about their own cars.

David, is that your orange '77 in the picture, or just a great picture you clipped and saved? (I clipped it a few years back myself and couldn't remember who's it was, but loved the picture.)

It always reminded me of the '77 Corvette brochure pictures from back then.

Good luck... GUSTO

The '77 Corvette was my first new Corvette, but I bought it as a leftover so didn't have the opportunity to pick the color... orange would have been my choice.

Mine is the one on the left.

Unfortunately it is the one Corvette I've owned that I never fell in love with. It was a loaded car that was wonderful on the highway, but no 4-speed, no L-82 and no gymkhana suspension.

I sold it in 1984 with 6,000 miles on it to buy a C4. That's a car I did fall in love with and still have. It now has a little over 8,000 miles and is all original. It's still a thrill to drive each time I take it out.

I never modified the '77, but I did buy a set of Corvette Sport Mirrors to put on it. I never got around to installing them, but hung on to them anyway. In '88 I found a '73 convertible with a 4-speed to put them on and bought it! Go figure I guess. I still have it and even did a body off restoration on it in the early 2000's. Another one I've fallen in love with.

David...You need your own show on TV. It would have to be better than 90% of the restoration shows on now.

Good luck with this one...

post up as you progress!

found that ad interesting, recommending lubing the suspension every 7500 mi never would have guessed.

Also said 3 spd auto could be shifted manually. Valve body any different than the typical trans or just sales fluff?

[QUOTE=AllVettes4Me;1595049567]Bringing her home.

Looks like a great starting point you have there. What condition is the interior in?

Interior is dark brown leather. I will assess it this week. Still on my trailer. Need to free up the lift.

I know mine (L-48 auto) could be shifted manually, but I don't know if it would have held it if the rpm got too high or I lifted. I also never tried to pull it down into low gear unless I was almost stopped.

I do know a friend had a twin of my '77 (the car on the right in the photo in post #12) that he autocrossed a lot. His was also an L-48, auto (turbo 350) and he definitely would hold it in 2nd gear until he was ready for it to shift. He had to have it rebuilt with about 40k on it and the shop owner who was also a friend of ours, told him he needed a new transmission as his was not worth rebuilding. I seem to recall that they convinced him he needed to step up to a turbo 400 if he was going to keep driving it the way he did.
