Default What Broke on Your C3 This Week?

These darn cars seem to be breaking all the time. I know mine does.

This week the rack in my steering column decided to break.

How about you? What broke?

Nothing this week. Knock on wood.

Only issue this year was discovery of a worn heim joint in the strut rods that had to be replaced. Everything else that happened was owner induced, LOL.

Went to dinner/date night out with the wife. Valet must have moved the telescopic steering wheel down. Went to adjust it back to my normal location and my horn got stuck on. That was fun at the light. My wife hates the car, so that didn't help my cause with all the work I've done on it over the past few months.

It stopped when I started pulling back on the horn cap, and now works fine... Go figure.

Man you guys are living right!

Or I just might own a piece of s--t.

My pride and joy seems to throw me curves all the time. It's good to walk away from her every now and then. It's hard to do quality repairs when you're burned out. I'll get back at its latest problem when some parts arrive.

The area on the outside door handle where the vertical "release" rod attaches to. Small space to work in. BTW, the handle mounting stud only has one nut holding it now, the other stud was way to deep and blocked for me to replace the nut. After fighting with one little 7/16" nut for and hour i said "fk it", and threw it in the bin.

Now I have a pass side turn signal light out. Bulb works, so I've got a "deeper" issue to chase.

Rear exhaust hanger broke and allowed the exhaust to hang down and drag the road. Used my belt to hold it up until I got home. Then an hour of work lying on my back under the car to get it fixed correctly. In other words, just a typical day driving a 47 year old car.

Monday morning on my way to work, my 4 week old MSD High Vibration Blaster coil died. Once diagnosed, was able to swap back in the 10+ year old plain jane MSD Blaster 2 coil that it had replaced, and was back on my way. I've not had much luck with new MSD parts in the past 6 months, my f250 had a similar total spark disappearance a couple of months ago due to a failed dizzy with less than 600 miles on it... It's the third time I've ended up on the side of the road in ~18,000 miles (and 2 years) in the Vette. Only had to tow it once of those three, (not this time) but I did have to get a lift home to get the old coil.

Drivers side front caliper started seeping brake fluid from the out board piston boot. Swapped out caliper and re-bled the front brakes and Oh yeah, stripped and refinished the inside the wheel with new paint. The brake fluid ate it pretty good.

Nothing today,

My 69 is odd if i belived in superstitions i would call the car a lemon but i dont,
Of all my other vettes combined i have not had the bad luck that i have had with this car ranging from 30 year buddies damaging it to paid techs damaging it, neither cared,

A pot hole busted a rear strut leading to a frame off,

I have had two engines and now a donor chassis, mostly all new parts,

I still have a lot of stuff to get up to par on it but i really love this poor old car,

I will not give up on it, it sucks when it feels like nothing is going right but just sitting in her for a few and its all okay,

I wonder what happened to the guy i got her from,

Discovered this after my recently completed Route 66 drive, a crack in the right rear wheel strut. Replaced both sides yesterday.

Bloody hell! I assume that's similar to what happened to you bats?
I better keep an eye on mine, for everything else I've done to the car I'm still running factory strut rods (with poly bushes) at this point.

mine was a pot hole, not all that bad a one, but i did have 10inch wheels and wide tires which i think helped it not get damaged more,

My stock strut looked okay but the end of the eye oppisite to the rod just opened up like it was cut with a knife,
Smooth,

The rubber bushing was nasty rotted,

That lead to close inspection of tge frame and finding a rusted out spot where the pass trailing arm bolts in,

That lead to frame off and now my 69 is on a 68 chassis,
