Default Trying new airboxes and intake on my z06 with the Harrop Hurricane

Just wanted to show some people what I have been working on, to make the Harrop Hurricane work in a c6 z06. The airboxes are made of carbon fiber and I moved the alternator around this time, to have enough space for everything. Hope you like it!

Looks very similar to what my friend, Heinz, in Austria did a few years ago at Cool Chevy Race Parts.

That's probably no coincidence as I designed that system as well . Heinz did the tune and install on that one as well as this one. Back then he needed to work out a speed density tune, today we run 100% on the MAF which makes life much easier.

We had a few issues with that design, that's why I revised it. Now we have 4 inch round inlets on either side which also makes performance better compared to the oval inlets.

Well besides that there is barely any space to fit airboxes that won't either touch the valve covers, the alternator, the hood, or the firewall, there is no Corvette specific issue. Without airboxes they don't produce power though as they suck in hot air from the engine compartment and you loose a lot of power. Other than that the Hurricane works great and produces tons of torque just like it would in any other setup.

Yes, I have forged Mahle pistons on the lower end, Katech valve train and K501 camshaft, milled heads to 11.5 CR and American Racing Headers 1 7/8" going into a Corsa exhaust.

I'll post before/after numbers next week after the dyno session. My old setup showed some nice gains, and this setup will definitely outflow it so I'm hoping for something quite nice for a NA mod. The car does feel like as if it had a small supercharger with the Harrop though, there is that much more torque available from 3000 RPM.

So here are some preliminary dyno plots. We gained about 10-20 hp nearly everywhere, depending on RPM. However, compared to my old setup, which was in one of the images posted above, we lost 20-40 hp depending on RPM.

I did some CFD to resolve this issue, as the airboxes are actually better than the old design. It turns out that the hoses have 10% momentum (mass flow) loss compared to a straight pipe of equal diameter and length.

I figured that I would have losses with the hoses, but I was thinking on the order of 10 hp and hoping that the better airboxes would make up for that. Far from reality

Therefore I will make a carbon filter box, similar to the old design and we should be back on the amazing gains we had previously. On the old run, the throttle was released around 6200 RPM as our rear seal blew that time, so that's why the dyno goes down drastically towards the end. With the new setup we should have 10-20 hp on top of that above 6200 RPM.

Don't want to put words into anyone's mouth, but I believe Jim halltech and katech didn't have the best results with this intake either, and ended up switching back to a standard composite setup with 1 TB. That too was on k501 cam and higher compression
