Default Breadloaf Begone!

I bought my '89 last fall and it came with a panel for replacing the passenger side crash pad (aka Breadloaf) that the previous owner had never installed. I finally got around to installing it and wanted to share the results.

I'm thinking it needs an emblem of some sort...that'll be a project for another weekend.

Looks good!! I've got one too that I haven't installed yet.

Would a C4 gas lid emblem be too much?

How hard was it and how long did it take to do the swap?

I have an '89 and you've got me thinking....

Confab, I'm actually thinking about a gas cap emblem. I thought maybe cut off the outer ring and just leave the flag portion.

Bill, I'm guessing half a day. I pulled the dash pad; mine was a b!tch to remove. The instructions for the new panel suggested cutting the support brackets. I didn't want to do that. The top screws were easy with the dash removed, but I couldn't figure out how to remove the sound panel under the dash to remove the lower mounting screws. (The FSM made it sound like you have to remove the crash pad before you can remove the panel to remove the crash pad.) I ended up using a Dremmel tool with a cutoff wheel to cut the two bottom screws at the clip nut and the panel lifted right off. The replacement panel just slides in after that. The kit included a new AC vent tube which is white and can be seen in the picture. The instructions suggested some black spray paint to disguise it. I didn't think it would be as obvious as it is so I'll probably paint it at some point.

check ebay for Corvette emblems. I picked up a couple of stainless steel laser cut ones for $7 each. You may have to page through a lot but they are in there.

Here my bread loaf replacement from back in the late 90's.

There were several options for deleting the bread loaf back then. I had to cut 2 screws with heavy duty wire cutters. They weren't needed to install the pouch. I took this panel to a boat upholstery shop 5 years ago to replace the fabric with a much better fabric as the sun and heat degraded the fabric where it was falling apart. Thin width bungee cord is used to let the pouch stretch. I still have the loaf. GM was thinking too far ahead for the bread loaf as when air bags were standard, the Corvette dash was changed.
You could also use the horn button badge if the gas badge is too big.

Got one sitting on the shelf also at the moment. Likely a winter project but who knows.

I could see a corvette emblem in a contrasting shade of gray for a subtle look rather than a full color one.

If he won't, I will. I need to get it out first, but I'm not keeping it.

I would just have one 3d printed, I like the LED idea. Breadbox has been deleted from mine and replaced with the insert like the OPs. Trying to figure out what to put on it as well.

The way the general should have designed it.

Crash pad?? Is that all that is for? I always thought there was some parts behind there that would not fit behind the dash with out room from the box. So no glove box in the early cars? Mine is a 91 so I don't have it.

this one this one
through Amazon/Ecklers that I may go with. I'm a little hesitant to spend $40 for an emblem on a $50 panel though.

I like that one the way it replaces everything from the center out. If I may ask, where did you get that one?

The one I have to go in leaves the breadbox surround and looks to stick in from the back which I think is less attractive but still better than the breadbox.

It's amazing to see there are some "stock" early C4s with their bread box still on it. I got to say, there have been at least over 5,000 threads on this mod. This mod is a MUST DO if you have yours on it buy the flat panel now.
