Default 1969 427 390 HP guys, need a pic of a correct air cleaner please.

My car came with a black dual snorkle air cleaner and from what I have researched, this is for later years. I believe mine should be a black base with open element and chrome lid. Just trying to be sure before I take the next step.

Thanks!

Agree, very nice! Here is a pic of mine as we get ready to install the engine in a couple of weeks. My buddy Carl has done an excellent job. More info on this in the "what did you do to your C3 today" thread.

If you are trying for the totally correct look, you will have to determine if you have an early build or late build style silk screening under the chrome lid. The early cars had the straight line printing and the later style had the curved type instructions.

Not exactly sure when the change occurred but it was sometime close to March 1969.

I am not really going for the nut/bolt correct build. I am going for reasonably close to correct, but within reason. I saw an original 69 open element air cleaner for $699 on ebay....I am not going to pay that, so I am going with a GM licensed reproduction air cleaner for $109. Bye the way, I have a super early 69, an October build as far as I can tell. So early that I have a 68 core support and radiator with a cap instead of the overflow tank. Thanks for the info!!!

Thanks Alan, I've been working at cleaning things up since I got it last fall. It's a driver but I like to keep things correct. Rich

Hi Ed,
You mean straight like this? My April 7th car came with this lid. I borrowed it to somebody for flight judging and the NCRS guys at the regional got all excited over it. Also a photo of the original base and flame arrestor/hose/fitting.

That is awesome Dennis,
Yours is in great shape!
I have an original one in my Jan car but the printing is very faint. I'm pretty sure my Feb car has a repro.

I don't know when they changed, I thought March but it must be later and I'm sure the date is not a hard date as they most like used whatever cover they had in front of them and didnt exactly worry about rotating stock on an item like this.

Great pic,
Ed

Thanks. I love the look of original cars. This car was repainted, and has new carpets, but everything else is pretty much original. Its probably the only Duntov Award car in the country that has a carseat for my 3 year old. I drive it at least once or twice a week to drop off kiddo at school...she loves it.
