It goes without saying, that should not be possible. Even un-arched, it should not make contact. It could be sliding in the rear differential brackets. I wonder if the center pin sheered somehow?

Hi 74,
The ends of the spring are actually quite close to the dust shield as these photos show.
What size tires recurrently on the car?
Regards,
Alan

The photos make the spring ends look a bit closer than they actually are.

A 255-60-15 tire.

a loose camber adjustment nut could cause the wheel camber to change while going through a turn. Looking at the drivers side tire from the rear how would you describe the tire straight up and down, or the top of the tire learns in towards the body?
Are the camber adjustment bolts tight?
What size are the tires?
