Default Dealer just reset the ECU for $130 before discussing the problem with me

Hi, everyone!

I have a 2017 C7 Z06. Yesterday, my car's check engine light is on state

that engine power reduced. I brought it to the dealer. They found out the

code. It about 'The map sensor malfunctioned one time at 158mph'.

I know there's a lot people having problems with the map sensor and get check engine light at 158mph.

Here the thing

While I brought the car to the dealer, they didn't even discuss the problem

with me, and do all the work by themselves. I know most of the dealer

will discuss the problem and see if what u think about.

So it ends up. They didn't do anything or fix my problem. They just reset

the ECU to clear the code. And then they charged me for $130.

If I knew they just going to reset the light and will charge me for $130.

I won't bring it to them.

So anyone has idea what I can do now.

They didn't get me noticed and discuss the problem before they reset the light.

They said I am not supposed to drive that fast. What's the purpose for? I am not buying a Corolla.

they said it's not covered by the warranty if I go that fast. So they need to

charge me. is that ture? My car is shock, I just put a coolant expansion

Tank on, that it.

I wouldn't pay the bill. If I'm going to get a check engine light each time at the track I'm not sure it's the right car. Something doesn't sound right.

I kinda New to this. But I never heard about the car won't be covered by the warranty if you took the car to the track. Is that right?

It is a 2017...what about warranty?

If a dealer did a non-warranty repair on my in-warranty car without my prior approval, I fully expect them to eat the cost. That's what they get for doing something without my approval of at least an *estimated* charge.

Rex - are you in the US? If so, you were ripped off. They should not have charge you anything for a car under warranty. If it were me, I would dispute the charge if you put it on a credit card, or cancel the check if you paid by check. I would not have paid anything for this "repair". I would also call GM customer service and tell them what the Stealership did. Your car is covered for track use so long as you have not modified it and did not flash a tune. Perhaps GM customer service will assist you with recovering this charge if you paid in ca$h.

If you are outside the US, then perhaps the warranty outside the US is different and this is normal.

Get a bluetooth ODB II scanner and a app for your phone to pull codes and monitor it's status. bluetooth ODB scanner will be around $10-$20 and the app is free.

Just for us all. Questions about where are you, are not necessary if you go to the User CP and put in your general location. We aren't going to come looking for you so no need to worry about that. But it is most helpful when you ask for help on this forum or post a Q as many answers are location specific. There are 3 people on this thread alone (out of 5) that have no location in their User CP.

If any dealer told me I "wasn't supposed to drive that fast" I'd cuss him out on the spot.

NFW would I pay that bill.

I'd have told that dealership to go F themselves. If I buy a car that can go 158 mph, and it has a warranty, they're covering the issue. How fast I do or don't choose to drive is none of their business, and isn't relevant in the validity of a warranty when it's throwing codes.

When I was in my 20's I had a mustang that had a bad suspension creak, which turned out to be failed welds. They tried to blame the issue on everyone from me to the shop that installed my exhaust. It only took about 5 minutes of my explaining that if they didn't get to fixing it, I was calling my lawyer, and then everyone at Ford that would listen to me. They ended up seeing it my way, but I'll never forget that situation. Dealers can be so sketchy.

That has got to be one the craziest B.S. dealer ripoffs yet! Talk about STEALERSHIP and scam artist. NO WAY should they: 1) charge you for any warrantee work especially clearing a friggin code and 2) say they are charging you for something because of the speed you drove it!!!!
Like others have said if you paid make sure you dispute the charges and definitely let GM customer service know. AND if you get a customer service questionnaire tell them how dishonest they treated you.

Just tell the dealer you did not authorize any non warranty repairs and refuse to pay.

Or chalk it up to experience, and make sure to give the dealer a one star rating on every website you can find and definitely find a better dealer for your future work.

I took my wife's Caddy in because the driveshaft bolts had loosened up and it was making a thunk sound when it shifted and braked. I called the dealer and asked if the 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty (like our C7s have) would cover this on her 2012 model and they said yes. They then handed me a bill for $43 for the tech tightening the loose bolts. I refused to pay and they threw the bill away. I asked if I could tighten them next time and not impact my warranty and they said sure. I said, "See ya!"

I agree that (chances are) nobody on this forum would have any ill intent towards you, but... there is still some personal info visible on the invoice you posted. I would be careful about doing something like that. Just my $0.02

Thank you guys, I disputed the charge today, and they already refund me back. I just moved to US last year, kinda confused about how those thing works.

They refund me back the money. however, my issue is still here. Any idea that i can fix the problems? I looked on forums, some of the people replaced the map sensor, but the problem still here.

Rex, I would start by finding another dealer. Where are you, maybe a forum member has a recommendation.
