This seems really cheap to me. What is the scam?

Wow. We have wildly varying ideas of "cheap".

...carefully restored by a marque specialist while under the scrutiny of a noted collector, the finish of this car is stunning.
We'd know more if there was a pic of the engine pad or trim tag. Otherwise it has plenty of clear coat on it.

Am not a betting man, but i would feel confident in saying at that price the car has a pad issue or tag issues. Real cars with real motor and real paper are real strong.

What does "documented with a tank sticker" mean? I can make my own tank sticker and document a car?
Let's see...no pictures of the tags, the engine pad, and no concrete documentation to confirm it's really a 435 or a red car from the factory. They aren't telling you what is really for sale here.
My car is identical to this one except for the wheels, and I have shoulder harness belts.

With all due respect to Ruby Red, part of the price problem might be the color. Green and Maroon for 435s are not the most valuable colors in today' market. It even matters that the stinger color is a more desirable color.
The blacks (with Red or Blue stinger) are the most valuable given their rarity. Reds next then silver, then the blues (more or less grouped together). Point is that color is a big determinant of market price (something that Haggarty doesn't track).
PS. I looked at the ad again - if the color is red, then the car - if a real red 435, should be well north of 165 of the condition is #1.

My guess woud be that they don't do this because of forums like this that scare off buyers by picking cars apart and often have people that really don't know what they are speaking of casting doubt about stampings, V.I.N. plates and trim tags. You can bet that if a serious buyer asks they will get all of the pictures they want.

I was selling a 69 Z-28 a few years back. Had quiet a bit of interest and I sent pictures out to a few fellas.
A month later after the car had been sold [and those same pictures viewed and verified by Jerry Mc by the eventual buyer] pictures of the engine pad show up on Yenko.net posted by a guy I never heard of.
The guy asks what everybody thought of the stamping upon which he got responses that ran the gamut from.... nice original pad, to waaaay to nice to be real must be a fake.
I had known the car for 30 years and I knew the engine had never been out of the car so even without Jerry Mc chiming in, I knew [and guaranteed the new buyer] the engine to be born with.
I like the guys at yenko net but fellas posting on an forum, 3/4 don't know their a$$ from a hole in the ground....
Some do but I would post an engine pad for public scrutiny.

Perception, perception - I always considered Marlboro Maroon to be one of the most desirable colors on a C2. I spied a twin of that car sitting out on a used car lot in Ok City back about 1971 or 2 that looked so cool I would have done just about done anything to have bought it. But school came first. Pretty car - but it would have to be for that kind of money.

color fads come and go and not everyone likes the same colors. while I agree with bb62 on what colors sell for more there are some expectations

If you can live with the 390 rather than the 435 you can save $100K here.

Check out Milwaukee Craigslist. Red/black 435 convertible.
I know the car. It is stunning, and real. $169k. He turned down $250k 5 years ago. A far better car than the legendary car.

I'm looking closely at a car at ProTeam, they always put up the tank sticker so you can see what it came with. Can't see a downside to it for a newbie like me (at his first midyear rodeo)

First off - if they can "always" show you a tank sticker on a car on their lot that should be your first reason to be suspicious.
