Default Looking at 12 GS - Warranty Claim History - Excessive?

I have been talking to a dealer about a 2012 GS 3LT and they did send me the warranty claim history. Not knowing Vettes as well, this does seem excessive and looking for those in the know if it is or I am thinking wrong. Also, is spider cracking common in the glass roofs?

It is CPO and would have a 12 month 12K warranty, but not sure yet if GM CPO or dealership CPO.

Here is what I got in reply.
The car is in "good" condition based on the miles, i'm not going to tell you it looks brand new with 70k on it. The sides have some stone chips, the roof glass has some spider cracking which is common. We priced it a few thousand below market value because of these things.

There was a guest here today working numbers and financing options on it today, there is no contract written on it so it is still available, if the status would change I would for sure let you know asap. If you decide to come take a look at it, call me when you leave and I will put a 3 hr hold on it until you get here.

Here is the full warranty claim history.

Wow that's a lot. It said the door was repainted. It could be in an accident. Imho I would keep looking for a lower mileage similar Vette

So many cream puff Vettes out there without all that noise. I'd let that one stay on the dealer's lot.

That seems like a long list, but when you look at it more closely I don't see anything alarming on there. Some of the things are repetitive and listed 2 or 3 times, and a lot of them had to do with the targa top and/or weatherstripping. My guess is that maybe the top had a creak or was making noise that they couldn't get right. Really, it's all relative to price and if you think you are getting a good deal for the condition and mileage. Like I said, I wouldn't be too concerned about that list of warranty issues if everything else checks out. Most of those things seem like minor issues or adjustments. Some guys wrench their own cars, and there is no list of service that's been done to it while others bring it to the dealer for every little squeak or rattle. Former owner, probably falls into the latter category.

I agree, but it really comes down to the price.

They are asking 33K for it. I think this is a bit high for the mileage and wear, but also have not approached them with an offer yet. They have serviced the car since new according to carfax.

Nothing major in that list, other than finding out why the door was repainted. As already stated, some things were listed multiple times and there were multiple repair attempts on the radio and removable roof. I would personally look for a lower mileage vehicle. There are way too many garage queens out there to buy a car like this, unless you can't afford the extra money for it.

Some has to do with the money. Get to much higher and you are knocking on the door to used base C7 prices, and if you are knocking, you may as well jiggle the handle too see if open. I know my limits and if I go there, I will end up in a newer model. My search started with C5's. Got myself convinced now it has to be 2008 or newer.

Based on mileage and price, I would say they are asking too much. Like I said in an earlier post, the other things on that warranty list don't really bother me, but the car is priced too high considering the mileage. Are you looking for an automatic or M6? Found this one on craigslist in Machesney Park for comparison sakes.

As others have said, nothing really serious in the warranty history except for mysterious door repaint, but there's no reason to get a car with this many miles and these issues.

Keep in mind that these reports may actually reveal more to you about the owner than it does the car.

From this report, it appears to me that the owner was probably meticulous about his car and wanted everything to work perfectly on it, and took it into the dealer for every little item he found on it. Other owners may choose to ignore issues and not get them fixed and so their cars would "appear" to have a cleaner record. So these GM reports can be misleading. This car was most likely owned by someone who took really good care of his car and wanted everything working properly on it.

Also, make note that the drivers side door refinish occurred right after the dealer did work on the roof latch. My guess would be that the dealership scratched the door while doing the repair.

Walk away from it.

With the adjustments that where needed, looks like it was driven on very rough roads, and may need other adjustments that have not been caught yet.

Worst, with the electrical parts that have been replaced (RCDLR twice), screaming electrical gremlins that may have been caused by it being driven on rough roads, and this is a spendy process to correct as parts start to fail from such after your short warranty is up.

GM is not going to paint a door because of an accident.
Most likely a paint flaw from the factory that passed inspection at the factory and PDI but didn't pass the owner's microscope.

I contact the person on this one and did not get a reply back. Guessing either sold or they no longer want to sell. I usually hit craigslist and then cities about two hours around to see what they have.

The search goes on, which is okay as I am not going to rush it and just buy one to buy it.

A. I didn't know there was a GM cpo put on a car w. 70K miles; could be, but I didnt think it went that high for mileage. B. The dealer may be using the same terminology, but I've not heard of a "dealer" CPO. If that is in fact a dealer warranty, it's an aftermarket warranty and not necessarily easy to get work done at places other than your dealer. Plus, you have to very carefully read the exclusions (items/parts excluded from aftermarket warranty).

I'd think you're going for price and thus the miles and issues, but there is still a "price" to be paid for that choice.

Besides that, all the suggestions above that you can find a better car are imo correct. And as to number of things done, many/most were small items (like hinges, top align. etc.) but still it is a lot of things plus some were more serious.
