I fully trust my 427 vert LS7.
Lots of tales, internet stories and some may have actually happened, but I feel there is much to do about a small percentage of actual failures.
Of course, should my motor eat a valve, I'll change my tune!

'13/427 vert.
Columbus - PHX, 6-months later, PHX - Columbus. 19k on the clock.
NO problems and . . . got to drive it for the full 12-months.

I just do not understand how GM can do all the research and let this 427 motor out. This should have been addressed this before or after the first problem. This must hurt resale value with all the posts I have read. People say spend the $3,800 Fix the problem and be done with it. I do not think that is fair.

GM says the valve issues were resolved by the time the 427 verts came along, of course someone here will dispute that. And if mine does have any issue, be it a valve or something else, it'll most likely be due to something I did to it, and then I'll just fix it.

I was thinking about stepping up to the 427 but have real concerns. I looked at buying one that was done, but was it done right? I would not touch one not done. I am not crazy fast driver but when I want to put the foot down I would cringe. I don't want to have the power and be scared to use it. I was so happy when GM brought back the 427 now not so much.

I agree but the cost is near $4,000. I would not buy a 427 due to this failure. I was really wanting a 427 but after reading the hardship of owners I would not touch one. GM should do something to all the owners who purchased this motor. Why should owners have to bear the extreme cost of repairing this GM problem. This also does not include the Horrible resale value. GM please fix this.

Just to chime in, I'm new to the hunt as my first purchase will be in the next 9 months or so. I've loved the '96 GS since I first saw one on the showroom floor, but a LeMans Blue C6 ZO6 has me realllllly interested!
That all being said, I would have a shop that I trust lined up to do the head work immediately upon taking delivery. Unfortunately that also adds 4k to the purchase price. And short of a well known shop that has done the work to said car, I wouldn't trust just someone saying that the heads "were done"....receipts or no receipts. There's just too much at stake.
I just don't know if my budget can swing the ZO6 when you factor in a low mileage car plus the added cost of repairing the heads.
It's such a shame that these cars have this reputation. And as most will say, why gamble with a known catastrophic problem. You have to address the problem.
