Default Fans won't turn off???

Today I was driving and the outside temp was 70 degrees...More importantly the coolant was 180 degrees and oil was 179 degrees...

Then I looked at my instrument panel(tour mode)at some point and the coolant said 0 degrees!
I pulled into a convenient store, cut the engine off and the fan was running full force and would not stop...After 15 minutes or so I figured the battery would eventually run down, so I opened the trunk and disconnected the positive pole...After 30 seconds, I reconnected it and presto, fan was off and car started and performed as normal...Drove another 60 miles or so and all is still good...

Why or has anybody else experienced this?

Did you have a low temperature thermostat installed? If not your thermostat has probably failed open and the engine failed to come up to normal operating temperature in the expected period of time so the ECM assumes there could be a temperature sensor fault and turns the fan on high and sets the engine temperature display to zero to indicate a possible sensor error.

You should always disconnect negative first.

I have a 160 degree thermostat on my car...I've driven in all kinds of temps both hot and cold and this has never happened...I was 30 minutes into my trip when this happened...

youre running either the stock tune or incorrect tune for a low temp thermostat.

My car has an upper and lower pulley, CAI, full exhaust, cam, custom twin heat exchangers for the intercooler, and custom tune from Vengeance...

Very similar occurrence happened to me last week. Its been about a month since the pro charger install . Came back from a 400 km run ( car performed great since the install about 3000 kms ago ) . I Was out " playing " with a bunch of other cars last week , I went to pass one and heard / felt a noise . I backed off a little , within 10 mins , I started to hear and feel a noise from within the car . I stopped to gas up , turned the car off and still the noise continued . Re joined the rest of the group and the noise was still going . When I opened the hood , I found the high speed fan still running and it makes the whole car shake and vibrate . This continued for about 10 mins !!! Tonight I went out to try and see why this happened . On initial start up , Coolant temps were still low , oil temps never got above 90 to 95 C but I still have a vibration . I'm guessing I have an exhaust leak somewhere in the engine compartment which sent my engine oil temps high . Ran the car for about an hour or so , vibration still here but all other temps are in line , however , I still have vibration .

Let your tuner know, how long have you had the mods and tune? It's a simple fix.

Do you have HPtuners?

Ive had the mods and tune for about 3000 miles...Next time I'm there I will definitely mention it...You say simple fix, what needs to be done in your opinion? Thank you for all your responses...

The stat gasket could have failed and is leaking internally, or the tuned Thermostat setting was not changed from 194 to 160 F is my guess.

Any difference if you turn HVAC off completely? It's a long shot, but problems with the air conditioner can cause the fans to run full blast.

More likely the tune if that was recently changed, just throwing it out there.

the desired coolant temp table

of course as onfire said, your thermostat could have just failed.

Mine did something similar... Fan would stay on.

Go back and see Mike. It's a quick update to the tune to fix it.

The key here is if your coolant temp gauge actually reads 0 degrees as you stated.

If it does then the coolant temperature sensor has failed low or been disconnected. If that is the case the safety default for the fans is on. I think around 47% speed.

Ensure you are getting a correct temp reading from the sensor before you go chasing something in the tune.
