Default Has anybody replaced their steering wheel?

Hi All,
I'm contemplating replacing my steering wheel with another OEM but in suede... has anybody replaced their steering wheel ? any concerns with the air bag ? electric connections ? anything to consider ?
Thank you in advance !

Swapping out the steering wheel is a fairly popular project. No real issues with the airbag as long as you take the proper precautions. Some members reported the steering wheel nut was challenging to get loose. But others come off with no issues. Look here for more info.... https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-swap-diy.html

Had my dealer do the swap. The cost was $75 well worth it for me since I tend to break things.

Gee That's a no-brainer... probably be passing thru your neck of the woods over the Weekend on our way to Vt

Am I correct to assume you did that without removing your steering wheel ? I am actually preferring the Suede texture to the leather

Why not this? The center bolt is a pain to remove try heat gun to melt the locktite. Use a long breaker bar.

Yes red locktite too, what a PITA. I agree heat would have made it easier, but I like doing things the hard way! Here's the easy way from Locktite:

Mine was a full steering wheel swap-out. As you can see, the paddle shifters and steering column buttons are also in Carbon Fiber. The dealership did the swap out for me.

I was going to replace the shifter with the suede too, but then I ordered the MGW shifter which should be here shortly and also ordered a black shifter **** with the red evil smile.
I also wanted to swap out the console for a carbon fiber one, but I'm having a tough time justifying the 300-400 for what looks like a carbon fiber wrap over plastic

Default Steering wheel swap

I did exactly what you intend to do
Center nut is tough but a good heavy Breaker Bar made it easy.
Make sure you disconnect the battery and discharge the system FIRST!
Just step on the brake a bunch of times after the battery disconnect to use up any lingering power in the system.
Good luck

Looks great ! so does the boot ! Why did you switch ? looks or for feel ? I like the looks of my steering wheel but I felt the leather was sort of slippery, thus considering swapping it out for the suede...is there a noticeable difference? I ordered the MGW shifter because with the original, I found it too easy to miss the gate at 4 to 5 and 6 to 7..
