Default Tow me

Went to lunch with the wife today. Afterwards, when I went to start the Vette it would turn over but now start. So, called a tow truck and had it taken to my friend's shop. I guess tomorrow I'll be driving again.

I always request a flatbed truck ... have heard too many horror stories of front end damage when towed using a truck like the one pictured.

When I had my C6 towed, I requested a flatbed. The dispatcher was kind of snippy and asked "Why do you need a flatbed?" and I said "Because it's a Corvette." And she accepted that answer.

The OM specifically warns against towing with two wheels lifted.

"Towing

Towing Your Vehicle

To avoid damage, the disabled vehicle should be towed with all four wheels off the ground. Consult your dealer/ retailer or a professional towing service if the disabled vehicle must be towed. See Roadside Assistance Program on page 7-7.

Recreational Vehicle Towing

Notice: Dolly towing or dinghy towing the vehicle may cause damage because of reduced ground clearance. Always put the vehicle on a flatbed truck or trailer.
The vehicle was neither designed nor intended to be towed with any of its wheels on the ground. If the vehicle must be towed, see “Towing Your Vehicle” earlier in
this section."

And it's amazing how many don't look it up before they allow something to happen to their beloved car (which is unlike any other car they have owned). Took me 30 seconds online, and it might have taken a couple of minutes (tops) to track it down in the OM in the glove box.

Although my times may be shorter than most, because I've actually read it a few times.

I would recommend owners downloading a copy of the OM onto their phones so they can have a (searchable) copy no matter where they are.

Not all flatbeds are created equal. Once I needed a tow and the chain used to pull the car onto the bed. Damaged the front of the car.
I agree, this is not the ideal way to tow. But anytime your car needs towing. You risk the chance of damage.

But to the OP. Please keep us updated on what went wrong.

My 07 has been towed 3 times , each time with a flatbed. Still a tense moment as damage can easily occur.
No way would I use that type of tow truck.
Hope no damage was done and easy repair for the OP.

Did the tow truck driver use some sort of a dolly under the front end? I can hardly believe there wouldn't be some serious scraping going on w/out getting the front tires up and off the ground/raising the front end.

So it ok for you to wonder what's wrong w/the car but its not ok for someone else to wonder about the towing procedure. Sometimes it might be important info in the unfortunate event that we might need a tow.
Also please note, thread is titled (TOW ME)

Hopefully, Supperman wasn't damaged in the tow, but discussing how it should (or shouldn't) be done may keep someone reading this from having it towed this way, because they may not be so lucky.

I reread the OP's post and nowhere did I see where he asked if it was a proper way to tow his car. Having said that, it is a nice "public service announcement" to point out the proper way to tow a Corvette.
I will say again, I am more interested in perhaps learning something regarding why his car would turn over but not start...fuel pump, fuse, no fuel, etc.

And that is a-ok if that is what you are concerned about, ask away maybe you will get an answer, I'd be kind of curious to know also. But with that being said to put others down for asking about towing which is apparently what some of us were wondering about , Well I just don't think that was necessary. And I say again the thread is titled Tow me and I'm pretty sure that and then the photos of the tow truck and car is what prompted so many comments about towing.

It wasn't the flatbed, it was the operator that damaged the vehicle. I was the operations manager at a large tow company for a while after retiring from the Air Force. We required all flatbed operators to carry wood planks to add additional ramping for low sitting vehicles to ensure the chains didn't hit the front bumpers/spoilers and/or ensure the front bumpers/spoilers didn't hit the bed. Also, on the few occasions where I've needed a tow, the flatbed operators did the same

Tef, you and me can agree to disagree. I never put anyone down for asking about towing. It appeared TO ME the OP was being scolded for allowing his car to be towed in an apparently improper manner. What's done is done. Now we know some folks' opinion on the proper way to tow/transport a vette. It's all good.
I hope it is a simple repair for the OP.
