Can the general public tell the difference between GS, Z06 or Stingray on looks alone
Most people that I know think of a Corvette simply as a Corvette. A car that is america's darling sports car and mainly bought by seniors since they have the money to own one as a toy even though its every teenage boy's wet dream. They dont realize that they go from $55k base to over $100k. On the street do you think the average person or even a car enthusiast who doesnt know too much about the Vette can simply look at one and tell the difference between a Base vs a Zr1/Z06?

General public? I doubt it. They are two busy texting, checking Facbook and Twitter and Snapchat to notice you drive a Corvette let alone a Z06 vs base Stingray.

The trained eye knows the difference. The untrained does not know. That's why I try to share or spread knowledge when the opportunity presents itself.

Base looks pitiful next to Z06.

Nope, and the public can't tell the difference between an S430 and an S65 either, and you're talking over $100,000 difference easily there.
Heck, most people can't tell the difference between Jack Bauer's $20 fake Rolex and a real Submariner either.
That's why you'll always be happier buying for yourself rather than to impress others, because other people won't know half the time anyway!

Not just a Corvette phenomena. The general public won't be able to tell the difference between models like: BMW 230 vs M240 vs M2. Audi A3 vs S3 vs RS3 ... So on and so forth.
I would even bet that the general public wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a Porsche 718 vs 911.

You've got to be joking. Outside a rather limited sports car enthusiast crowd, nobody else could tell the difference, even with the badge differences. There's a significant segment of the population that can't even tell you that it is a Corvette.
The C7 has been able to slightly modify the age demographic towards the more youthful. There are a lot of younger C7 owners here. That said, "mainly" seniors is still correct.

Go Canes!
I got a parking ticket in my C6 once and they put that it was a T-Bird.
Most people haven't got a clue what the differences are the Z, GS, or Stingray. It will be interesting to see if they know the difference with the ZR-1 when it comes out with that huge wing in the back.

I have had a lot of people tell me that they thought my C6 was a brand new Corvette so the general public definitely doesn't have the ability to tell the difference between specific Corvette models.

Nope, the unwashed only know (and that may be to much credit given) it's a Corvette. Many of those don't even know what a Corvette is, and most of the many just know it's a purdy car.

I have had many compliments on my car but no one has ever asked what model it is.(Z51) Only a Vette enthusiast or big time car enthusiast would know the difference, or care. People gasp when I tell them it has 460 HP, and when I tell them about the Z06 they usually respond with, "that is ridiculous, no one needs that much power".

Ditto. I came home with my modded '11 recently and the neighbors thought I hit the lottery. The have no idea their Lexus sedans and SUV's cost more.

No, only Corvette owners and a handful of very car savvy folks can tell the difference.

When we owners encounter each other, that's when the model stuff starts flying. I was getting ready to play golf last week when I ran into Joe, a Z06 owner, who's also a golfer. Joe was lamenting the fact that my coupe could hold a bag of clubs or two and he can't get a bag in his Z06 convertible. Randy, a forum member and another golfer I met in a parking lot, has a Z51 vert, he says the trunk is tight, but he manages. I almost enjoy the conversations more than the car. And that's the part some owners don't get...you can't have one without the other.
I'm always encouraging those who always say, "I could never afford...". I try to let them know, it's closer than you think.
