Default Anyone try the Continental Extreme Contact Sports?

I wanna get rid of my run flats. I was initially gonna go down to 18" and 19", but i might just get the continental extremecontact sports in the stock sizes on my stock rims. Anyone try these before? Are they comparible to michelin pilot super sports?

Yes I put over 20k miles on them and a few track days. Great all around street tire, not a track tire. Better in the rain than Michelins MPSS and quiet. Great price although not as good looking as the Michelin as the side walls have more of a curve.

Good luck finding them until like February. They are redoing the design.

They look good, hows the dry performance compared to the michelins?

The Conti's have better grip then the Michelins cold which is most of the time on the street.

I see you are in NY. So your statement above may be true there.
I am in the South East most of the time. I find that anytime the temperature is above 45 or 50 the Michelins have much better grip.

That said the Conti's are quieter and provide much more grip when cold or when its cold out (less than 45*).

OP
I put 25k on my the original Michelins they all needed replacing at the same time.
I put 35k on the rear Conti's I replaced them with. I didn't need to replace the fronts at that time. The fronts have about 40K now and they still have at least 40% tread left.

So Needless to say I am pleased with the Conti's wear and mileage.
Even though I did give up a slightly noticeable percentage of grip and the round look (in my opinion) doesn't look as good as the Michelins.
But for the price the Conti's cant be beat. The rounded look does take some getting use to however.

That being said, I haven't found any tire that sticks like the Michelin above 45*.
The grip they give is fascinating and they aren't bad in the rain.
If less than 45* however be very careful because they are slick a glass.

You may want to call to see if they have any more rears inbound before the new style comes out. The fronts are in stock.

Hang on a second. You got 25K out of your original C7 ZO6 Michelins, and are claiming to have explored the traction limits of this tire under a variety of situations? I'd ask the same with the Contis, with 35K on the rears, and 40K on the fronts, with 40% left to go on the fronts.

Well, im screwed... my left rear mpss run flat caught like 5 nails... now i have to replace it with something. I wanted to wait for the conti's but i might just get 335/30/20 mpss non run flats... anyone know if you can run a 28" tall tire on these cars at stock ride hight??? Or do i have to go down to the 325/25/20 mpss, at 26.3" tall? The stock mpss run flats are 26.6" tall.

I don't recall making any claim about exploring traction limits, but yes.

I don't track my car. And after the obligatory runs to figure out how to get the quickest 0-60 I don't usually roast the tires. "Spinning aint winning" lol.

Most of my miles are highway miles. I do a 800 mile round trip once or twice a month and some other trips in addition to the daily commute. However that highway trip takes me through the mountains of TN,GA,NC and SC and some back road twistie's depending on the route I take, (not far from the tail of dragon territory) so there are plenty of opportunities to explore the cars limits and work on my techniques as well. So believe me I know the road, I know my limit, and more importantly I know the limit of my equipment on any given day.

That being said there are many days during the daily commute that active handling and traction control are activated.
There have also been times I prayed for the traction of the Michelins because I thought I had screwed up big time, fortunately active handling and plain old good luck saved me.

I said all of that to say this, you don't have to be a track rat to realize the difference in the traction between the Conti's and the Michelins.

This is what the Michelins looked like (the top 4) when I removed them at 25K miles. I would guess 18k or 20k of the 25k where highway miles. I had the Z right at 1 year when these were swapped out for the first set of Conti's.

By the way Michelin warranties the MPSS for 30k miles if you can rotate them or I would actually be looking for some pay back LOL.(very bottom of their page).
They are rated at 300 for tread wear. The Conti's are rated at 340 tread wear ( I didn't see a mileage warranty).

The MPSS have a tread depth of around 7.8/32nds. The Conti's made of less sticky, longer lasting rubber have a tread depth of 10/32nds.
So these factors and my heavy amount of highway driving may account for my results.

Just curious....you caught 5 nails in the run flats? Where were you? Were you a good distance from home or on a road trip?
Did the run flats get you to the house?

Point is the run flats probably bought you some time, saved you a tow and possibly the expense of a hotel if you where a good distance from the house out in the boondocks away from a major city on the weekend.

You and many others may want to rethink ditching those run flats.
I've heard plenty of horror stories about waiting on a tire to be delivered or having to be towed because of running non run-flats. I have a few of my own as well.

If you look around I think you will find people running 335/30/20, but I personally think they are too big. This week I ran 27.5" slicks on the rear and they rubbed the liner on the right side, front of tire where there is a bump out.

I installed a set up MPSS NON run flats at the beginning of this summer. They are just fine and even at the track for a couple of days but don't measure up to the cups!

The fronts are a bit taller and wider I believe than the run flats. Here are the sizes I installed on my Z07 lowered about 1 inch all the way around. Fronts 295/30 ZR19, 100Y and rears 325/25 ZR20, 101Y. No they do not hit even on the track. They do feel a bit softer and more comparable to the Contis on the street for ride quality. Go to the tire rack site for exact specs. I hope this helps.

Clarification on my slicks. The rears are closer to 27.8". If you corner hard they will rub.

Idk where it happened... i was out all over all day and didnt realize anything till the next day i turn the vette on and i get a low psi alert. So i fill the tire and notice pressure goes down about 1 psi every 5 min, so i take it to the dealer for a patch and they said they cant theres like 5 holes in it. I ended up finding a promising looking pair of used rear run flat mpss's on ebay for $390, that'll have to do till the new conti's come out.

I'll take the risk, I'll just take a tire inflator kit with me if i go anywhere far.
