American Powertrain Announces
New Pro-Fit 6-Speed System for 1968-82 C3 Corvettes
System includes TREMEC® MAGNUM transmission with choice of four gear ratios
Cookeville, TN (August 17, 2017)…American Powertrain, the world’s largest TREMEC dealer, is now introducing the next generation Pro-Fit 6-speed system for 1968-82 C3 Corvettes. The system looks like the original 4-speed transmission with the correct shifter position in the factory console.
Designed as a complete kit, it features an American Powertrain customized TREMEC® MAGNUM 6-speed transmission that offers a choice of four different gear ratio combinations; all that will shift smooth as silk, a new crossmember, driveshaft, trans mount, offset shifter mechanism, calibrated speedo drive, Speedo cable, reverse light harness, 6-speed shift pattern plate, and mounting hardware. The transmission is rated at 700 lb./ft. and will shift up to 7,000 RPM.
American Powertrain’s DOM steel driveshaft, built with an exclusive billet face flange yoke, will make installation a five minute job, even in the narrow tunnel of a classic Vette. Options are available to upgrade to an aluminum, chromoly or carbon fiber driveshaft.
The price for the 6-speed Pro-Fit Kit for C3 Corvettes starts at $4,395, transmission included. Bellhousing is sold separately. All Pro-Fit kits are covered by American Powertrain’s two year warranty and includes free extended hours tech support.
For more information visit www.americanpowertrain.com. To speak with one of American Powertrain’s highly qualified technicians, call 931-646-4836. During weekends and holidays, call 423-773-9789.

FW and clutch assy grand +- Mc Cleod scattershield around 5 bills
for what youre getting thats really not too bad spent more than that doing a GM T56 conversion
A center force DF clutch easily handles over 500hp, engages like a stock one, not like an on/off switch
for the guy that wants strong new stuff with minimal hassle that pkg is totally worth it.

When I did my conversion there was no kit but is was still doable.
The only part I had problems with was the American Power Train white lightning offset shifter. 2 replacements and it never stopped leaking fluid. I had to modify the seal design to fix the problem.
This is my install.

You gotta really want one, at that price... Braggin' rights, if you can afford it.

Nice that someone actually put a kit together. Would have been better at $4500 complete with upgrade option though.
I did my swap with a used T56, but only have $1000 into it total, since I was able to reuse the new clutch and flywheel from my 4 speed and sell my old parts to offset the cost.

I found a T56 for $1k and spent about another $1k on parts. Tons of time planning and wrenching that for $2000+ savings and a weaker trans I think was worth it.
Its not for everyone, which is why the kits exist. It really is a fantastic upgrade.

I think that my auto to manual kiesler kit with options was $4700 in the year 2000.
it did have the blowproof bell housing, 22 pound steel sfi flywheel, Sachs clutch & PP.
I didn't know anything about Sachs, so I bought the centerforce DFX setup. Something like this with a 11.5 pound 168 tooth sfi 26 spline for tko 600 flywheel. later on I installed the sachs and it still works great even with road racing my 434 sbc
