Default New Location for Cars & Coffee W. Chester, PA

Police shutdown the long standing Cars & Coffee at the Dilworthtown Shopping Center two weeks ago. A new location has been selected at the Starbucks at 4895 W. Chester Pike in Edgemont, PA. Please park in the noted location to keep the parking lot open for businesses at that location. Also act like an responsible adult so this is not shutdown too.

Saturdays: 7:30 to 11 am

Strange but a week after the meet was shutdown in the parking lot,
the Starbucks had this happen at 7 am in the morning on a Monday. One person hurt. It's strange when you see something like this at place you frequent often and where you could have been. The customer space is just a little wider than that Jeep.

I heard there were about thirty cars at the West Chester location last week with no issues ?

I'm gonna head there tomorrow and see what gives, at a minimum I'll buy my coffee, drink my coffee and leave. I dare the local 'donut force' to do something about that !

If you don't get locked up at Dilworthtown or you get chased out, why not try the new spot? There we around 20 cars there last week. That's were I'm headed.

Good turnout today for the 2nd meet at new location. Here's the sign that was put up at the old location that was police enforced.

Some cars at new location today.

Hi Walt, no worries about getting locked up. I bought my coffee, drank it, talked to a some of the others and went about my day. We had about thirty cars show up today.

As for the new location, the drive is more of a PIA than it's worth for me, so we'll work on a more 'Western' location for the future ........

My guess is that the landlord put up that sign.

Call the Starbucks. They know NOTHING about it amd it only hurts their biz to not have a good turnout of people.

That is correct. It was the owner of the shopping center that put up the signs and had the police enforce it after a couple of the stores complained about the number of cars that were attending the event each Saturday. Starbucks loved the event because they got a lot of customers. The others didn't get any.

Sir, I'm enjoying my coffee that I bought at Starbucks. I'm not loitering. I'm not trespassing. I'm a patron of this facility.

Sounds reasonable. But after a lengthly discussion with one of the police officers, he said that after you leave the Starbucks establishment you are no longer considered a "patron of the facility" and if you do not get in your car and leave in a reasonable amount of time, you are considered "loitering" and can be charged with "trespassing" and fined. Along with that and the stipulations on the sign it seemed like the best alternative was to just find a different location and that's what we did.

Now Mikado seems to be saying that cars are still showing up without penalty. Others have told me that the police are recording license plate numbers and enforcing the restriction and threatening fines if they return. Anybody else with comments?

Sure. Contact StarBucks management on the corporate side. The leasing companies never enjoy hearing complaints from their anchor tenants.

Won't help, because another fly in the ointment is that this particular Starbucks is scheduled to close in January and move it's location to a near by shopping center so I'm sure they could care less about this particular site.

Walt, I was there this past Sat, arrived around 0745, a fella in a Porsche pulled in at the same time. From that time till I left around 0915 approx 25 - 30 vehicles showed up with no police presence.

Some of us again talked about alternate locations from Newton Sq with the agreement that the Painters Crossing shopping center, rte 202 & rte 1, 1 mile down the road, made sense. After all there are movie theaters and a Nudy's restaurant in there and parking for the movie house will not be used at that hour of the morning.

Bummer man, I was planning on heading over to WC for my first visit, I won't drive 20 miles to Edgemont...too far for me, almost 40 minutes.

I'll think about it, but doubtful, thanks for the encouragement.

understood, my drive is even longer, anyways we are going to try and see if we can get interest for those of us that don't want that drive to congregate at the Painters Crossing shopping center (rte's 202 & 1)

Perhaps if there's interest here on the forum we can shoot for a date to kick it off next month. I'm going to a car show this weekend in Thorndale.
