Default Dexos One

just bought a 2014 premier edition with dry sump oil system. the manual says to only use dexos one approved oils. what oils meet that spec besides mobil one? i used pennzoil platinum in my 2008 for ten years. fact is, mobil 1 is not the best synthetic out there. like to know if there are other options.

that's good to hear. i read on the oil guys sight that pennzoil was dropped because they got tired of paying for the certification.

Pennzoil's website still lists Dexos1 certification.

http://www.pennzoil.com/en_us/produc...-platinum.html

The Ultra specifically lists the Corvette too:
http://www.pennzoil.com/en_us/produc...-platinum.html

You'll find out real quick once you're at the store though and see the current label on the bottle/jug.

The dexos1 spec was updated in 2015 and this site lists the latest gen 2 brands:

Any oil that meets the Dexos 1 Gen2 spec.

Many oils meet and/or exceed the spec, but did not pay the licensing fee to have the Dexos logo on the bottle.
The label on the back of the container is your guide.

OIL THREAD!!!!!

I use Mobil1. It comes in a big jug and is available from WalMart. (usually on sale)
Plus, I've got a nifty cap on the dry sump that says MOBIL1...

FWIW: For track use Mobil 1 15w-50 is recommended but it is not Dexos certified

I agree that Mobil 1 is no longer the best synthetic... Just keep using the brand you prefer..
I actually use Valvoline Synpower

Even if not dexos certified, almost all full synthetic oils will meet or exceed dexos spec.

AND there's a $2 per quart rebate:

http://www.pennzoil.com/en_us/promot...omotion-7.html

I bought 4 jugs of the Platinum Ultra for $25 a jug from WalMart.com and had it shipped to me free... $20 coming back for the $100 in oil.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pennzoil-...-5-qt/55291206

The Ultra is my personal preference after many OUA between Mobil 1 and both PP and PU. In all cases my UOAs had Mobil 1 higher in wear metals than either PP or PU across multiple vehicles and oil changes. That said, the numbers were still really good with M1, just not as good as the Penzoil synthetics for my cars. Unfortunately the Ultra is almost impossible to find in stores and usually sold out online.

wish i had known about this. threw the receipt out. i looked at the form and looks like you only get the rebate on a single 5qt container. how did you get $20?and since you bought four, shouldn't you get $40. it does say the max rebate is $48.

Max rebate is $48, so up to 12 quarts. The site says one or more of the 5 qt jugs for up to $48 total. if i had purchased 5 jugs i would have only gotten $48...

i see. i read (1) 5qt bottle as 1 5qt bottle. didn't see any way to increase the (1) to more. moot for me anyway because i tossed the receipt.
