Default "Visible carbon fiber hood insert"

What exactly is this? A sticker? A different hood? A lighter hood? I found a local car with this apparently absurd $2000 option

It's the exposed carbon fiber piece on the hood behind the vent. I debated on ordering this but chose not to for $2K.

What an absurd option for $2000!

So it's an actual carbon fiber insert installed into the carbon fiber hood, as opposed to a carbon flash colored stripe (as below) installed on the carbon fiber hood?
What a waste of 2 grand IMO!

Can the sticker be removed revealing body color paint underneath?

It is a Carbon Fiber panel installed on top of the hood before it is clear coated. It is not removable.

Yes the carbon flash sticker can be removed, but I like it as it complements the silver and other carbon flash components and black vert top on the car.

You guys are confusing apples and oranges.

The exposed Carbon Fiber option of the hood, is just that.... Exposed carbon fiber with clear coat. Beautiful, but pricey option ( at least for me).

The carbon Flash center stripe, is vinyl material which is applied overtop of the paint. That can be removed.

I'm not confusing anything!
On my silver GS (photo above), it's just as I stated; a vinyl stripe that can be easily removed to expose the silver paint underneath.

It's a sweet looking option on the hood. I wish mine had it. I settled for the Carbon Flash stripe.

Why would you pay $5 more than the option actually costs? That's absurd!

Really? I thought it was similar to the 'visible CF' targa top. Since both the targa top and hood are already genuine carbon fiber construction on *every* C7.

I thought on the targa top, there is no additional 'insert' applied for 'visible CF' finishes... just a special clear coat over the base structure.

You're saying the C7 hood, which is already carbon fiber, has an additional 'vanity' piece of CF overlaying the existing structural CF for the 'visible CF' hood? Seems odd.

Again, I'm not 100% sure. Anyone have a link about this?

As I understand it, the body panels are made of carbon fiber, but are not carbon fiber weave. An additional Carbon Fiber Weave is inserted on top. Same with the Targa Top option that has the carbon fiber weave insert. (BTW, I have both options on my 17 Grand Sport, and LOVE the look!)

This is what I've read on the forum previously. There is also a video that has been posted, that shows how the C7 body panels are made. That video indicates the finished product is not carbon fiber weave.

It's like the side skirts, the Carbon Flash painted ones are Carbon Fiber, but you can't just strip off the paint and clear coat it to make it look like the visible carbon fiber ones. There is more work and expense involved in laying up the Carbon Fiber to where it will look fantastic with a clear coat.

There is also a visible carbon fiber rear spoiler that is not cheap either. It is actually an amazing piece of carbon fiber, looks wonderful. But that look does not come cheap...

Well worth the price in my opinion. It's what makes my car stand out against many of the other Corvettes I see. I do have more Carbon Fiber than many people so I may be biased.
