Changed the high/low bulbs in R66 to halogen, left the high beams incandescent. No relays for the original wiring.
Great improvement on the two hour drive back from the FunFest. Only problem was the 2 million bugs they drew onto the windshield.

The Halogen's don't draw any more power than standard lights... they just make more light!
No need for any changes. I think you will like the results.

The Sylvania H5001 and H5006 halogens should be the ticket - hi and lo beams, confirm the numbers tho.
Plug them in and go..

I put in Hella low beam lights with H4 bulbs with no relay, no problem. However, the accessory driving lights I hooked up to the low beam circuit are on a relay.

Try the Halogens, if not satisfactory -- use the following article to decide if relays will help (a simple voltage test):

I followed a friend of mine to an out of town show last weekend. He had just installed LED lights in his car and boy did they light up the road and shoulders..practly day light. No relay is needed they are plug and play. A pretty pricey but great lights for the open road even on the dim setting. And yea I think he killed every bug in southern Michigan while I followed in my Vette with only a few bug casualties..
He paid $400 for the pair and they are probably twice as powerful as my relayed halogens.

I'm glad you asked this question. I just had an original T3 low beam go out on me and I bought a pair of Sylvania H5006 to install, and save the backup T3's.

The older T3s have seal failure at the electrodes...once they suck some air .. its all over. As many a surprised owner has found during Flight judging ops checks. I seal all around the electrodes with clear silicone sealant...
I don't know how anybody couldn't see a difference going from original T3s to Halogens...its equivalent to having cataracts removed.
And yes, the LEDs that I've seen are pretty fugly on an otherwise original car...

there are many things that are not needed in a car, and yet are more than worth having. Relays is definitely one of those, as I experienced in my 64 coupe
