Roof on Z06
I'm going through the configuration at the GM website for a Z06. And they have several roof options. What I want is a standard roof and a standard transparent roof. There is a selection for that. But another option looks better to me. At the end of the configuration under Accessories an option in the picture below. It looks like a better deal to me. It is a transparent carbon fiber roof. Am I missing something here? The body color dual roof package is $1,995. With the one I'm considering you get a carbon fiber transparent roof as opposed to a polycarbonate clear plastic. Only a $100 more for the transparent carbon fiber.

There are
--1) Carbon fiber construction, but fully painted in body color (no carbon fiber weave is visible). This is the standard roof included in the base price of the C7.
--2) Cabon fiber construction, but with body-color-painted outer edge "spears". The center section of the roof is left with visibly exposed carbon fiber so you can see the weave (it has a clear coating, but is NOT 'see-through'). This roof is an extra-cost option.
--3) Polycarbonate (see-through) roof panel. No carbon fiber. This roof is an extra-cost option.
--4) NEW FOR 2018 CF-edged polycarbonate roof
Thanks to Joemessman for the new information!

I never heard of a carbon fiber transparent roof either...

An even better deal is to just get the roof that comes with it, and buy the glass roof after, though a discounted GM parts dealer.
I bought mine for $1500 the day after I bought my Vette that came with just the standard roof. You also can find used roofs for around $1k as well.
Just so you know, its the same roof on the Stingray, GS, and Z06. They are all compatible.

I wonder how they sell it as a transparent carbon fiber roof? Doesn't GM know its own products?

With supplier and other discounts available these days that dual roof package comes down to around $1650-$1700. Yes its still more expensive but this way both roofs are covered under warranty. Glad I took this route on my build as new hardware came out approx 6 months after I bought. I had both "fixed" under warranty.

The carbon fiber roof is way more expensive (around $4-5k if I remember correctly) than the "glass" roof, so it makes more sense to buy the glass roof as a 2nd one, if you go in that direction, than to take the glass roof-only option and lose getting the CF roof at all.

You had two roofs fail on you? What happened?

no such thing as transparent carbon fiber

The carbon fiber roof becomes transparent AFTER you forget to latch it and join the flying roof club. The bouncing will reorganize the carbon fiber providing you with some transparent viewing ports where solid carbon fiber formerly resided.
By the way, I just ordered the transparent roof with my Z and have never felt the need for a solid roof. I bought one of the anti-solar suction cup attached headliners and it is still in the bag in which it arrived and I have driven quite a bit in the hot sunny south.

I guess, though $1650 off a $2,000 option would be a 17% off discount and while it is doable it sounds pretty tough to get. It also limits you as you have to find one on a lot with the options you want, including the dual roofs. I doubt you are going to be able to order a car and get 17% off your total.

Roofs didn't fail per se... the hardware was updated in 2015. My roofs squeaked and rattled just enough for me to convince the service manager that I needed the new hardware that was updated specifically because of complaints about rattles, and since my car came with both (via 2014 factory order from Macmulkin) they were both serviced and adjusted with the new hardware under warranty.
In either case, if you buy a roof from after the fact, if its from a dealer, I don't think you'll have problems getting it warranty serviced. Pretty sure that is part of the advantage of buying from an authorized GM parts re seller.

Yes! That is carbon fiber around the perimeter, as I verified with GM today. Not as much clear exposure, but this looks like a very nice item to me considering I'm going exposed carbon fiber on the areo package. So there really is a carbon fiber clear top, and not sure what the material is in the center part that is clear. Probably polycarbonite like the others.

Well if it is true then very nice of GM offering transparent top with carbon fiber bezel. That makes sense since regular top panel is painted carbon fiber. And regular painted top is lighter than transparent top.

IIRC, from ordering my ‘16, the $1,995 dual roof package was a body colored roof and a transparent roof while the $2,100 dual roof package was an exposed carbon fiber roof plus a transparent roof.
