Default Help with Protect-O-Plate for a 66

Hello, I'm new to the Corvette Forum but not new to Corvettes having owned a 64 327/365-4 speed convertible and a 57 220/4 speed in the late 60's. I'm looking to buy a 66 coupe and need help with the Protect-O-Plate decoding. Hopefully the pic is attached. Thanks, Chuck

Welcome to the forum. That's not a 66 Corvette pop.

Not sure of the difference between a 66 and a 67 POP but here is my original 67 POP and the imprint.

Interesting. From a well known dealer. Does anyone know what the POP is from?

It's my belief that the POP you have is from a 1956 265ci chevy truck (3100) with manual trans and 2 barrel carb.

Thanks. I thought the POP didn't start until 65 and went thru 72.

I don't know about trucks, but according to the chevy engine code list I use, the engine was built Dec 13 and the FM code was used on the 265 truck motor. The Vin is not correct on that POP for a 56 truck, so I can't say. Not a Corvette for sure.

I've been trying to find out what the 155 at the beginning of the Vin (if that is the vin) is for, but I can't make sense of it. The only thing that sounds like a Corvette is the F1213FM. I'm going to have to give up.

If I'm reading the VIN correctly, I see 155696S165686. That VIN breaks down to:

1 - Chevrolet
55 - Bel Air, L6
69 - 4-door sedan
6 - 1966
S - St. Louis Assembly Plant
165686 - 65,686th unit built

The engine code looks like F1213FM, which translates to:
F - Flint Motor Plant
12 - December
13 - 13th day
FM - 250ci/155HP base L6, PowerGlide, non-A/C

The transmission code is C1217D, which translates to:
C - Cleveland Powerglide
12 - December
17 - 17th day
D - Day Shift

The Axle code is DA1216G, which translates to:
DA - Non-Locking 3.08
12 - December
16 - 16th day
G - Chevrolet Gear & Axle

Very consistent date codes, and although it was made in St. Louis, this POP is definitely not from a Corvette.
