gauges went crazy--help!
Hi, car is a '99. A couple weeks ago check engine light came on, had it scanned, got the gas cap/evap leak. Drove as normal for a week or so then did not drive for 10 days. Go out today, all is well. All of a sudden, no apparent reason (maybe hit a bump) the gauges go nuts. Temp went to lowest position, oil pressure to 0, gas to empty, radio goes off; DIC repeats low tire pressure, reduced engine power, bells start dinging, seat belt icon comes on, check gages light comes on . . . Made it home, turned car off, turned key on (did not start engine) and everything as normal. What the ??? Thanks, and help appreciated. Larry

Melting Slicks
I go with JR-01 above. Check your battery and all connections. Cheap to check and fix if thats the problem. C5's are very battery/voltage sensitive and those issues kicks off all kinds of funky stuff in these cars. Good luck to you!

the Wife and I decided to take my 99 for a short trip, get in the car and go to start it and click, click, battery down. hooked the tender on it for a few minutes, started right up ???? next day starts fine. two days later again won't start, have to put on charger this time, go to eat and boom batt dead ???? get a jump and drive home, next day starts right up ???? all this time, column warning comes on, TPMS warning, and a few others ??? new batt all is back to 100% normal !!!! I'm happy !!!!

When this happened I pulled over on the side of the road and googled it. There are other threads on this forum that have photos .
Good luck.

Two common things cause the IPC to go crazy. Both deal with a corrupted SERIAL DATA BUSS. The BCM acts as a sort of ROUTER for all the other modules. The BCm sends out a State Of Health Message to the other modules and the modules responds to that message to verify all is OK. The modules communicate with the BCM through the serial data lines.
If the BCM gets wet it can no longer work properly and sends out scrambled data. The serial data line gets corrupted and weird things happen. Gages have issues and you see NO COMMS messages in the DIC.
If a module has a power issue EXAMPLE (The Left or Right DOOR Control Module)
Explanation: The Door Modules use a SIX PIN power connector. The Female Pins inside that connector FAIL over time. The spread apart due to heat/cold cycles and vibrations. When they spread apart, the male pin no longer makes adequate connection with the female pin and the module turns ON & OFF, ON & OFF, ON & OFF, ON & OFF and that causes the serial data line to get corrupted.
The drivers seat connector can cause the same thing if it gets wet of damaged.
See if the BCM is or has been wet.
See if the Left and or Right door six pin connector has damaged female pins. Find a same spec MALE pin and conduct a Pin PUSH/PULL TEST on the female pin. If you insert the male pin and do not have adequate insertion / retraction tension, you need to repair that pin.
