Default A trip to the wrecking yard

Found this on the web. Neat photo of an old bone yard. Anyone wanna take a guess what year it was taken? If you look close, there are a few C-3 s on the left. Reminds me of when I would take trips to the wrecking yard with the old man. He would be hunting for old Ford parts that would work on his British cars. Not my thing. I just enjoyed looking at the old American muscle cars, hoping to find a souvenir like a shift **** or an emblem. Dreaming of the day I would have cool car.

I've seen the pic before, possibly in a Corvette News article.

Corvettes do not appear to get rear-ended often.

That's what I was thinking as I looked at this photo.

Far left, halfway down.

Bet someone "created" and all original SWC.

I've seen that picture before too. I wonder what happened to all those bodies?

And most of the engines are gone because XYZ car over there is now powered by a "Corvette" engine. Might be some truth to that saying when looking at this pic.

Yeah, this guy might have the only 64 split window in existence with some kind of BS story. Or they pieced together a 63 with parts from a later car and parts of this chopped 63 rear body and all is "original"

That's a great pic, thanks for posting it.

I see a little custom work there at 9 o'clock.

Picture reminds me of many trips to Contemporary Corvette in Bristol, PA years ago! Kind of sad but a great source for original parts for my 76!

That was my first thought also.
I used to go there when I was about 18 (44 years ago).

So I'm going to guess around 1975.

Looks to me that most of those Corvette owners should have been driving straight six Novas instead

My guess the picture was taken in the late 60's or early 70's. I see a C3 coupe rear clip against the fence. The good ol' days and cheap parts.

Upper far right in the corner is the mythical all steel corvette that everyone's friend, uncle or cousin owned back in the day.

Wrecking yards like this were never open to the public, at least none that I've seen or heard about. That many wrecked Vette's in one spot must mean this was a Corvette specialty operation. Most of those car are fairly well stripped which tells me a pro operation, KEEP OUT! It ain't no pick-a-part.

I have seen the picture before as well.

Am sure it was in a HotRod or Car Craft magazine in the late 70's

Went and found a couple of their Corvette special edition magazines from that era but could not find it.

I Have both mags from that era bound for a few years so I could have it with more detail.

Was in my late teens but still kept a few issues over the years.
