Ello, I am sorta new
Hello and greetings guys and gals.
My name is David Wood. I am in the Midwest. MO to be honest. I am a traveling/touring/session musician (bass playing is my main) for several nearly a decade now. Biggest achievement was playing Rockfest in 2015 and making a good living and supporting my family through music.
In 2015 a man very dear to my family and I passed away. He was my Step Grandfather. He used to call every Wednesday to discuss the "terms of surrender" of my kids for the weekends for him and my Grandmother. He was one of the nicest, odd, fun and informative people I new growing up. He owned a shop in Raytown called "Brakes and More" for a long time. When his heart started to go he had to close up shop and bring his tools and equipment home. This moved his beloved 89 Corvette out into the elements. As she wore down, so to did he.
After he passed the car remained outside. The only offers my Grandmother received for the car were those that were wanting it for parts. I made an offer, because he had promised my daughter also his favorite great grandchild, a ride to the prom in it when she turned 18. He said it used to get him through his many heart surgeries. I also couldn't see his pride and joy get ripped to pieces. I asked the families if it was alright if I made and offer and everyone was really happy about it.
Fast forward a year and I have almost got her fully restored. I have become a car guy more so than I already was and have joined a club here in the KC area. The Corvette Community has been more than awesome and informative. From that kindness alone I have become a Corvette fan, though I still love my Dad's old Buick GS, 71 and my Wife's 68' F100 Longbed.
Anyway, you all have helped me so much through these threads that I have officially been able to get the car running again. With much respect and gratitude, I thank all of you. Thank you so much for the sharing of your knowledge and experiences. I hope too to be able to help spread that knowledge in time.

That would be an awesome ride.
I found, behind a fire depot here, a 73 or 74 Stingray (the chief wasn't sure) with the 454 in it. Owned by the fire depot chief's son. Long story short, it has an engine replace, though they still have the original. It does work, but never seems to be driven. All I know about it is that it's white. They offered to sell it to me for $3k.

Welcome to the Forum, David!
Great that you were able to get your Step-Grandfather's Vette back in the condition it was when he was able to care for it.

The first two things he said to me were his name and not to touch his car. I was 13. Didn't even get my first ride in it until I was 19.

I do spend most days working on the car. Here soon I will be going through the EGR system and seeing if it is causing problems.
Today was taking apart the front and removing some shims there. The hood lines up perfect to the doors and rear of the front wheel wells, but the front of the car was off by nearly 3/4 of an inch. Dug in, explored, read some forums here, and dug in. Now the gap is no larger than the gap around the headlights. Looks a lot nicer.
I am really glad and lucky these forums exist. I would absolutely been lost without it with all the repairs over the year.
Now if only I could get a reference sound of how an 89 L98 is suppose to run so I know what it sounds like when it isn't right... ya... YouTube doesn't help very well with that.

Thank you. I am mainly used to OBDII cars so this project is turning into an intriguing adventure of looking at technology from the 80s. Also, finding many gremlins and "creaky bones" of this baby showing her age.
Just waiting on a laundry list of parts to arrive today. Then the big rebuild begins.
