Introducing my new custom Caravaggio cold air induction hood
Introducing my new custom Caravaggio cold air induction hood with automatic deployment above 40 mph.
Yes boys and girls you too can achieve the ultimate in heat extraction and cold air induction with the Caravaggio blower hood. You know that company with stellar quality components and the customer service to match.
As you will note the hood is opening from the wrong end. No doubt because as evidenced by the pictures it is totally separating the outer skin from the inner skin still attached to the hinges.
This the same exact hood John Caravaggio determined at first was not defective and would not separate. (The tape was used to get home after the hood started to come apart at 40 MPH, luckily not completely coming “unhinged” as it were and causing property and or physical damage).
This the same hood that John Caravaggio at first offered to “re-bond”, then thought it a better idea to just send me a can of glue for me to do it myself. But after discussions finally committed to replace the hood on Sep 30th 2016. Yes, just a few days short of a year ago. Then assuring me the hood wood be out in 6 weeks, then 12 weeks, then mid-January 2017. As we approach the one year anniversary of that firm commitment, you guessed it, no hood has arrived. And Mr. Caravaggio now has totally ignored any of the numerous communications asking for an ETA of the replacement hood.
You can view my original thread in the Transaction Feedback section of the forum under “Defective Caravaggio Blower Hood”. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ower-hood.html
Not sure Caravaggio Corvettes is even a forum vendor any longer as a search of the vendor directory results in no vendor by that name.
For those contemplating doing business with Mr. Caravaggio, caveat emptor.

Good to see you didn't wreck the whole car when that happened. The hood....not good, not good at all

Wow just wow!!!!!! This deserves a bit of play before it gets locked or moved. Is he still in business?
I don't know what I would do, hopefully they are still in business and care something about their reputation.
Good luck

How fortunate it didn't totally release and potentially damage you car and others behind you could have come out even worse! Glad you were able to make a temporary fix so you could get safely home.
Hopefully you have a back up hood so you have been able to drive your Vette over the last year.
By the way, I can see that the heat extraction and cold air induction would be optimal. Seeing where you're going - not so good.
Best wishes that they make it right for you.

Damn....that's not good, AT ALL!!
I don't even know where to begin, to describe in words what those pictures convey. Here I am, still debating about seat choices with Caravaggio on that short list, and that really sours my mood seeing that lack of quality control and follow thru in replacing an obviously defective part. Let's face it, Caravaggio ain't cheap in any capacity they offer.
alxltd1 I hope for your sake, that this comes to a good conclusion for you rapidly. Personally, I say to hell with the hood at this point, and get your money back. I know you probably had your heart set on that hood but, have you considered an alternative?
Best of luck to you friend...

hopefully he isn't a vendor on here that way this thread won't get locked up and deleted and if he has a conscience and cares about his customers/business then he will make it right... that's just ridiculous for a hood that expensive, it's on the same level as the extreme dimensions crap

Have him give you money back instead of replacement at this point.
Use that money to fix it.
It looks fixable
If you decide to fix it or have it fixed make sure you grind the contact areas and wipe them with acetone.
Corvette bonding adhesive may be too fast for such a large area but Home Depot or a jobber or boat supply sells a fiberglass repair kit or supplies.
Take it off the car.
Use strips of wood the spread out the load from the clamps.

It no longer says "Supporting Vendor" underneath his name. Not sure what happened there. Hopefully he chimes in.

To all who have posted, thanks for the comments and support. I continue to try and have Caravaggio replace the hood or refund my money, but to date since his last response in Dec of 2016 saying the replacement hood would be out mid-Jan of 2017, he has failed to respond.
To other questions:
Yes, I have picked up another stock hood to use in order to drive the car.
Yes, I have considered alternative hoods and if required will probably go with an RKSport High Rise hood.
Regarding fixing the hood: every body shop I have approached has said the same thing. To properly repair the hood you would have to totally separate the two pieces, prep the two sides in order for adhesion to be adequate, and be able to apply pressure against the entire surface evenly to ensure 100% contact and a good bond. Given the contours of the hood, without access to the molds which produce the hood that would be virtually impossible to accomplish. I am not an expert by any means but I can see the logic behind the process. Doing it any other way I would never feel comfortable driving the car at speed, constantly worrying the hood would again separate and take flight.
I even thought that if I am unable to resolve this, that I could have the center high rise section of the hood cut out and graphed to a stock hood. Again, no expert and that may be near impossible as re-bonding the hood as it is.

I cut out a piece and reworked an RK Sport Hood using regular boat repair type fiberglass so it would clear the A&A SC better.
You can cut out the hood and bond a scoop to it a bodyshop can do that.
