Window tint percentage
I'm looking into getting my windows tinted on my Monterey red '06 baser. I'm wondering what level of tint other Forum members have gone for and how they've found living with it?
I'm in CA so side windows aren't meant to be tinted, but the whispering is that a light tint won't cause problems. For the rear window I can go darker.

When I had my C5 I went with 20% all the way around and found it to be a good middle ground. Not too light or too dark. Never got pulled over or had any issues. One thing I will mention is nighttime driving with tint is no fun but most of the time my windows were down anyways.

When I lived in Tennessee I had the windows tinted at the legal limit 35%.
Anyone know what the legal limit for tint is in Florida?

OEM privacy glass is about 20%. That is what I prefer for the rear window; if you go lower, it becomes very difficult to see when backing up at night. The legal limit for side windows in MO is 35% and is dark enough to suit me. If you don't mind being illegal, 20% would also be fine.

Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 28% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 15% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 15% of light in.

I only had the door windows tinted on my GS, and I didn't want them very dark
Had the shop apply 50% tint
Cost was $60 total for both door windows

BTW .... The problem with getting the door windows tinted too dark is that it's very difficult to almost imposible to see anything out the side mirrors at night when the windows are up.

I get 5% all around on all my vehicles and love it. Looks great from the outside and it isn't too difficult for me at night either. I might be used to it though. I just love the look.

I always get "Arizona Legal" which I see buy the chart listed above is called 33%. Its dark enough during the day for me but at nite being in a rural town with no street lights it is very difficult to see !!
But I don't drive it much at nite.

Florida tint laws, if you can see the occupants it's too light Just kidding don't tell that to the cop that stops you but It is cheaper to pay the tint ticket non moving infraction that to have illegal tint removed just FYI.

I've got whatever is the closest to clear they make. Went to a high-end tinter (this is FL, tinting is big business), they said all the ceramic films screen the same amount of UV, that the tint level is mainly for privacy and cosmetics.
I mainly was interested in keeping the interior cooler and protecting it as much as possible from sun fading (which it doesn't do completely, I had to re-dye the carpets in my Porsche and then treat with UV blocker).
I've got the Pcar and our family car filmed, but I haven't bothered with the Vette. Un-filmed (and even with a black interior and clear top with dot-matrix screen) it looks darker and stays cooler than the others.
The only thing with these ceramic films is other peoples' car windows look like psychedelic rainbows if you wear polarized sunglasses. I had to switch to non-polarized.

CA law:
Front side windows must pass through more than 70% of light inside your car (70% VLT)
Back side windows and rear window can have any darkness
There is a company up here in the Eldorado Hills area that also has a ceramic clear for the windshield. PM me and I will send you their info.

Thanks to all for your feedback. I really appreciate all the help I get from this forum, especially with regards to the practicalities and legalities of tinting. I'm also loving the photos that people have posted, helping me visualize the various tint levels.
