Torch Red or Crystal Red Metallic - Which Would You Buy?
Looking at two 2010 Grand Sports both very nice, low mileage cars (20k miles). One is Torch Red, the other is Crystal Red, which would you pick? Both have chrome rims which I'd probably switch to black or gray.
I had a red 944 Turbo and police came out of the woodwork - seriously it got to the point I felt like I was being harassed. I watched one weave his way through traffic on the highway for about three miles just to catch up to me and pull me over, and then told me had no reason but wanted to make sure I had insurance and wanted to make sure my tags were current.
The Crystal Red, I'm just undecided on. It looks great in the sunlight, it really pops, but kind of bland in the shade to the point of looking maroon, and I really don't care for maroon.
I'd love to hear opinions from the Corvette world.....
Thanks.

This mine and I would probably have bought the Torch if it happened to find me. But if I were to put black wheels on it I think the Torch would be my choice. But I absolutely love this Crystal Red, I'm a graybeard so I love the chrome too. And I have a lot of it on my Harley also.

Not just because I have a Torch Red but my vote is Torch red.
Even before I had a vette the Torch red is "corvette red" to me. It really grabs eyes, especially in a Grand Sport.

I tested an '09 in CRM but didn't buy it, although I did make a subconscious mental note about the color being pretty nice.
I ended up buying a Monterrey Red '07 and absolutely love the color (not much different than CRM).
Everyone who checks my car comments on what a nice color it is. One (really really nice) woman I know who saw it the first time said she wanted to lick it. Haha, I'll leave that one right where it is.

Initially I looked at an '05 in a metallic cherry red which I liked a lot. Ended up with an '08 in Victory red...what's the difference between that and Torch?
Any non-metallic bright red is "the" Corvette color for me.

Love them both. I went Torch Red. But a well kept Cystal Red with shiny chrome wheels is a real looker in the sun.

These type of threads usually leave one more confused than prior to posting the question, but since you asked - In my opinion, all Corvette colors look bland in the shade. But with anything metallic, they really pop in the sun. Picking paint colors has always been the hardest part for me. Crystal red was an $850 option from the factory but probably has little additional resale value 7 years later.
Were I you at this point, I would pick the best car of the 2 and live with the color.
Nice problem to have, they are both one of the better flavors, good luck

I like red and blue cars. We bought our Torch Red 13 GS convertible new and now have 40,000 miles on it. Can't keep my a** out of the seat. And our blue car is the wife's 69 Camaro SS.

My 2001 was Torch Red and I loved it. I don't have the Crystal Red Metallic, but I have the Monterey Red Metallic, which was available through 2007. It is a little darker then the Crystal Red Metallic but still close. It comes down to do you want the in for face Red, or the much more richer looking Crystal Red Metallic. In the sun that metallic really makes the car sparkle. I get more compliments on the Monterey Red Metallic over the Torch Red. Also Torch Red has the tendency to look orange in photos under certain lighten conditions.
