Default Transmission tunnel insulation installation question

I have new clips installed on my 65 and I need to attach the insulation. Do the clips push through the cardboard-like material? Do you need to cut slots for the clips to fit through? I'm not sure what's the best way to approach this so I'm looking for advice from those that have already done this.
Thanks

eyedocs,

I installed my new tranny tunnel insulation material this afternoon in my 66. I made sure each clip was straight. I squeezed the insulation in a little and then pushed it up making sure the shifter opening was lined up. I then just pushed the insulation against the clips and it penetrated the insulation very easy. I then just taped the clips over against the insulation. Very easy task. Hope this helps.

Don

Thanks. I was concerned that the clips might bend while trying to push it on.

No sir, just go straight on and bend the tabs back.

Besides the clips, Chevrolet also used an adhesive to secure it. The A.I.M calls for 3 oz. per car.

Thanks. I'll go back and look at my AIM. I hope it shows where to use the adhesive as well.

I forgot to put mine on when the body was off. There's still a small section left in the rear of the tunnel, but I'd really like to put a new one on. How hard is it to do with the body on or is it even possible? Secondly, if I don't put a new one on, am I making a mistake?

Thanks,
Dex.

The A.I.M doesn't show where it goes but all the original ones I've removed had the adhesive on the top section only with none on the sides.

It is easy if your tranny is out. I just squeezed the sides in a little on the new one then pushed it up in place making sure the insulation hole was lined up with the shifter hole.

Thanks DONR. Everything, including the tranny, is in place but the tunnel insulation. I probably just need to lift the body a foot or so and put it on. I just hate lifting it since it's been freshly painted....it's just a risk I guess I need to take.

Thanks,
Dex.

I'm dropping my transmission to do this. But I need to install shift boot retainer and TO bearing. I have a removable crossmember so there is that.

Yep, that would make it easier for sure.

Thanks,
Dex.
