Default L-88 hoods

I want to put an L-88 hood on my 69 but I'm not sure which one to get. I know that press molded hoods are better than hand laid hoods but they cost a lot more than I want to pay for one. With that being said, I'm looking at a hood on ebay from a seller named "its-fiberglass". The price is decent and they use fed ex shipping that will ship direct to my home address, I don't have to pick it up from some unknown freight company that will most likely be on the other side of town. They have a 100% positive feedback rating but I was only able to find one feedback for a hood, the buyer seemed satisfied with it. It looks like a nice hood but has anybody here bought one from them? If so how was the quality and the fit? Here is the link to it:

That looks like the tall version of the L-88 style of hood. The tall version is about 2" taller than the standard version so make sure that's the stye you want before spending a lot of money then getting something you don't want. I have the standard version and it will barely clear my Air Gap intake on my 454" and using a 14" X 3" drop base air cleaner that was cut down a further 3/4" in height.

I found one on Craigslist locally with the airbox already installed. But best of all I could look at it in person to decide then and there if it was the one I wanted for my car. And like 71 pointed out, it looks like the tall version. Which means while driving it, it will obstruct your view a bit. Does your engine make it so you need the taller hood? Its a pricey part to say the least, and I imagine shipping is not cheap either.
Not trying to be negative about it, but make sure its what you want.

Is suggest you place a few phonebook on your current hood and make sure you are happy looking over a scoop that tall.

Ok if this is the "tall" hood does anybody have a link to a standard L-88 hood for sale somewhere so I can see the height difference and decide which one I want?

By the way, don't go by the first pic in the eBay auction because it makes the hood look taller than it really is. Look at the second and fourth pics in the auction instead, it's a much better image that shows the true height of the hood.

That hood looks really nice, you might have to scroll down a bit , but here's some aci stuff, some different versions of the L88 hood as well.

Ok I've been talking with the seller on e-bay, he says it's 2-1/4 inches taller than a stock flat hood, that it's the same height as a stock L-88 hood. Is that figure correct, is a stock L-88 hood 2-1/4 inches taller than a stock flat hood?

I just measured mine and it sits 2 and 1/4 inches above the WW door in the back. Hope that helps.

Mr Greek
I have run this style hood in the past and they look good. One negative is that on a long road trip the open area at the back of the hood will allow engine fumes to enter into the ventilation inlet btx the hood and wiper area. just be aware of this, may not happen for you but it sure did on my car.
Also looking at the underside of the hood it looks asthough the blister has been added to a standard BB hood

I have the standard L-88 hood on my '69 (Ecklers). See the picture in my signature. I just bought the extra tall one (about 1½" taller than the standard one).....it's taller but looks about the same; you have to see them next to each other to really tell. Both give you about the same windshield view.

Default Can you get me some measurements?

C3 Stroker,
I'm having quite a time getting accurate measurements of the Ecklers "High" L88 hood. It looks like you have one. Eckler's says they give 4" tall at the cowl which is fine but how far forward does that clearance extend before the drop off for the front? They don't know.

I have a ZZ502 with the GM intake and a 4150 Holley and 3" air cleaner.
With a straight edge running left to right across the top of my Air cleaner I measure just at 5 1/2" to the top of the drip rails in the fenders. The Ecklers high L88 measures 4 5/8" at that point. 1/8" does not allow for a wing nut to hold the cir cleaner on.

Since you're running the high L88 hood, can you measure what you have across your air cleaner to the drip rails?

I just don't see why my engine is so tall over anyone with the same setup.

Thanks, Brian

Mine measures 4" from the top of the air cleaner to the drip rails. It barely fits, with a 2" drop base and a 3½" element. ( Yeah , I squeezed in another ½" of element). I have the bubble top, so the wing nut is recessed in. Actually, the hood clearance is not 4" at the cowl (by the windshield), but 4" at it's deepest point toward the front. By the windshield it tapers down to about 3" high.

Thanks for the help!!!
I ordered a 2"drop bottom for my air cleaner and will see where it takes me. I might just make it with that.

Can either one of you measure how tall this its-fiberglass hood is above the drip rails?

I spoke at length with this ebay seller John Plodzik from Ohio. Says he has been doing this for a long time. Seemed very knowledgeable and ready to help. He’s willing to ship greyhound which for me is a plus as it’s simple enough to go to the greyhound station to pick up a hood.

Another plus is once you pay him he makes the hood within a week. A lot less time to get one vs ecklers.

Is there any way you could verify the actual space between the underside of the hood and the drip rails about two feet forward of the cowl?
