Buy a stubby antenna? I'll let someone else rib you about praying a CD.

I know there are some on the forum that have installed a switch to control when the auto antenna goes up.

I don't think you can easily replace a auto antenna with a stubby antenna.

Ok, others may be wondering, so I'll ask.

Why would you need the antenna up when playing a cd?

It has nothing to do with cd reception.

That's.......That "praying" must have been a "Freudian" slip, because I would pray if it did any good.

87Vette, thanks for the link! I think I'll just keep it simple and mount the switch somewhere in the back. I live in the desert, miles from any radio stations and plan on using the CD in my new(to me, kind of,,,,,,long embarrassing story) 2004 Z51 Convertible.

The toggle switch sounds like a great idea.

Does anyone make a kit using this rocker or can you swap out that dip stick switch for a round rocker switch?

There is probably a way to do it right at the wiring for the radio. A switch would be easy to install inside the console from there. Easier than routing a wire from the rear of the car forward.

I'm sure some electrical genius could work it out, and probably already has.

Can you post a picture of WHERE this "pink" wire is? The instructions say:

1. Remove interior panels at right rear corner of cargo area.
2. Disconnect courtesy lamp harness.
3. Locate pink wire that leads to antenna, then cut the pink wire.

Any chance you can post pictures of the exact location of each of these steps...also not sure if it matters but mine is a Vert.

Thank you sir!

The plastic "tail" on mine broke off at the gear so I pulled it apart, cleaned out the broken piece, and went down to Home Depot and bought a chrome cap to cover the antenna base. It looks great. I still get reception, just not as good. I listen to music on my flash drive anyway. By the way, as somebody else previously mentioned, a stubby antenna will not fit on a power antenna base.

I did it myself and put the micro toggle switch in the console along with seat heaters, cutouts and Laser

Those instructions are correct. I had a new double din head unit installed and my antenna on my 03 vert stayed up all the time.
I didn't like it!

Do a search for 'C5 antenna bypass" on Google and there are some places that have some pics.
I quickly found the one pink wire and cut it. It's easy to find.

I decided on a toggle switch so I went to O'Reillys and picked one out. I at first spliced two short pieces of wire to the pink wire and placed the toggle switch in the trunk to see if it worked and it did.

There are a lot of places to mount the toggle switch but it is a pita to mount. I just have mine secured behind the passenger seat where I can reach it if I want hear the radio.

It's easy to route the wires under the carpet with a coat hanger.

With my new head unit I use a usb flash drive with all my music so I haven't used the antenna but a few times.

It's an easy job and the only expense is the price of the switch, connectors and some wire.

Good luck!

Is THIS the wire that needs the tape pulled away to reveal the PINK wire?

The light in the picture is the courtesy light in the rear passenger side...

For the rocker switch - I see some with (3) pins and some with (2)

Im assuming I need (2) for non-illuminated and (3) if I want an illuminated switch?

This is a (2) pin switch

This is a (3) pin switch
