stock exhaust manifolds
On of my planned projects for this winter is to finally fix up my ratty exhaust system and that will involve discarding my 20+ yr old headers for stock exh manifolds.
My headers came with the car and there is a mounting flange towards the front on the pass. side where I have mounted the alternator. My assembly manual seems to show the stock exh manifolds and gens mounted similarly.
My question is: when I google "1960 corvette exhaust manifolds", the pics almost all seem to show the generator mounting pad on the left facing the cyl. head. ie; making this bracket at the front on the driver side.
I'm not hung up on correct casting numbers but I want to go for as stock of a look as I can get.
Are these late 50s/ early 60s sbc manifolds all pretty similar or are corvette ones unique? Are fuelie cars different?
Might seem like a minor thing but am curious now as to why so few images online show the alt/gen mount bracket that I want or am I missing something simple?
Thanks in advance for any input from the Forum!, Gord

The 60 generator was mounted on the right (passenger) side of the engine. The right side manifold has a boss cast into it, that the generator bracket bolts to.
FI cars used the same manifold casting number as carbureted cars, but the manifolds are drilled differently for the choke heat tubes.

If you go to the Corvette Central website, select "C1" and search for exhaust manifolds, I think you'll get an idea of what the various manifolds (including mounting flanges) look like.
If you're replacing the rest of the system, you may consider using the 1962 2.5" manifolds which may flow a bit better than the 2" ones.
If you go the reproduction route, you'll have some choices there too. The 2.5" manifolds labeled "foreign" (read: Chinese) on the CC site are also available from places like Speedway Motors for $60 or so ($120 for a pair). I can't necessarily vouch for those except to say they look decent, but don't have the GM casting numbers, etc.

The exhaust manifolds on 57-62 FI cars do not use a choke heat tube inside the manifold. The 57-62 chokes are heated with an elec heating element inside the choke housing, which receives 12volts FULL TIME when the ignition is on.
The 63-65 FI engines have a choke heat tube inside the LEFT manifold.
The last year for a LEFT side mounted generator was 57, then the generator moved to the right side in 58-62 Vettes.
ALL 63-65 Vettes had the alternator mounted on the left manifold----------------EXCEPT------------63-65 FI cars. They had the alternator mounted on the right side because the big air cleaner took up a large area on the left side.
Here are left side mounted generators (56 and 57).
Here are 58(no surge tank)-62 right side mounted generators.

All great info guys, especially the pics 👍🏻.
Will source out some "correct-looking" manifolds with pass. side mounting boss for next year's driving season!
