Default C7 Manual/Stick in Traffic jams??

Every once in a while, driving in Texas DFW area, I get caught in a traffic jam. One inches along sometimes maybe for 45 minutes? How is it in a M7 C7 corvette. This is the main reason I am shying away from the M7.
Of course, an auto is priceless in this predicament. My 65 is a manual. Even my Old Honda was a manual. I have driven C7s with an auto and a stick. I liked both.
Joke: What do we call a manual transmission? A millennial theft deterrent.
Thanks

I'd say like all manuals in traffic.....PITA. It just comes down to your tolerance for it and how frequently you have to deal with it. For me it's a rare occurrence so the M7 was a no brainer and zero regrets. If I was in stop and go traffic regularly I'd have either done the auto or make sure I had a daily driver for that.

This is an individual tolerance thing. I drove manuals in Washington DC traffic for 8 years (which is either the worst in the country or top 3 every year) and it never bothered me. In fact at one point I bought an automatic and drove it 6 months and traded the car in quickly for another manual.

But that is me. It's comes down to what you can tolerate.

No diff than any other Man trans. My drive on I77N is a daily experience with rubber-neckers,backups & wrecks.

I usually drive another car (Auto) to work now.

I drive mine all the time through Chicago area traffic if that says anything. I just personally couldn’t see myself getting a C7 without an M7.

I love it for when I can truly enjoy it on open roads and on trips but it’s completely livable to me in traffic. It all comes down to individual preferences though.

I have nerve damage in my feet, but I have been caught in traffic jams that inch along in my C6 Z06(M6). California definitely the worse for that and Dallas a close second.

I just put it into neutral as often as I can, so I can let the clutch pedal out, combined with using the handbrake.

If I lived in an area where that was an everyday occurrence, I would go with the auto. Two of my four cars are sticks(not daily drivers) and two are autos(one is a daily driver).

A lightweight car with 465# of TQ makes it one of the easiest in my opinion.

The only time a manual bothers me in traffic is when you are on an upward incline or going up a hill .. level road or down hill is no issue .. I have 4 vehicles ... all manual. Luckily for me my commute is fairly level the entire way.

I do it every day to and from the National Mall in Washington, DC, and at some point in 100% of my commutes am stuck in stop-and-go traffic. With healthy lower extremities, it's a non-problem for me and just a natural reflex. I don't even think about the clutch or shifts, like breathing and blinking.

If you're one of those people who has to think about every shift, the M7 is probably not going to work well for you in that kind of traffic.

Drive both, auto corvettes are actually a ton of fun now. I said I would never buy an auto, and then bought an auto. You will never be able to switch gears as fast as the auto, and the sound and pop of WOT gear switching in an auto is eargasmic.

The C7 has a bit stiffer clutch than my C5 did. It's a bit annoying when stuck in rush hour. But still no big deal. Just leave it in neutral most of the time, and do a quick pop into first to roll forward.

Hill hold assist solves that problem, works for me!

Hill start is no help for a mile long stop and go on an incline.

Its still an opportunity to be out driving your corvette. You could be sitting in traffic in a crap box toyota or something. I'd still have a big smile on my face regardless of auto or stick.

Boy, tough call.

When I was shopping mine, the Stealership had one exactly like I wanted except that it was an M7 and not a A8. Here in Central Florida, the traffic is unfriggin believable and there was no way I could deal with shifting in this area. Turns out the original buyer bought it the prior weekend and figured that out too and went back the next weekend and traded it straight back in. And the Stealership bragged how he raped this customer and was going to give me a deal on it with a couple hundred miles, 1 week old car - a couple hundred under the cost of a new one! What a crook!

The only thing I did NOT know at the time was the history of the problematic A8. Had I know what I would be in-store for, maybe I would have chosen the M7 anyway! So you need to read all the A8 threads and make sure you are prepared to deal with the A8 issues potentially. My A8 was swapped with 100 miles on the clock. And I almost Lemoned it.

I don't drive mine daily however I do drive it to work occasionally and sit in traffic on the freeway. It's an easy docile car to drive. I don't regret the M7 at all. It's a great transmission and more fun to drive than an auto for me.

Definitely preference but traffic does not bother me at all in my M7. I would give this one advise though...test drive both the auto and manual C7. Of course you know what an auto feels like and you know what the manual feels like in other cars or maybe a past C6, C5, etc...It took me 10 minutes at a dealership and I INSTANTLY knew I had to remain with a manual. I am so glad I did. I first test drove the auto and was bored but as soon as they pulled out the manual, a few blocks down the street - I knew it. It was like a light bulb come on. Maybe the same light bulb will flicker on for you - whether manual or auto...good luck

45 minutes is not a big deal...2 or 3 hours in bumper to bumper becomes a drag.

I have daily driven (100 miles a day) my M7 C7 for almost 2 years and 35k miles in brutal SoCal traffic. There have been many times I have been stuck in traffic for 2-3 hours, creeping forward a few inches at a time. Most of the time, the long delays are the result of accidents on the infamous Ortega Highway I commute on which sux because it's a two lane canyon road with no where to turn off of. This is happening more and more every week with inexperienced Ortega drivers causing spectacular crashes and locking it up for hours.

I will drive my auto Mini Cooper or Audi Q5 if I know traffic is going to be choked up.

I still wouldn't trade my M7 for an auto - too much fun. I have been driving manuals for most of my life and will always have at least one as long as they are offered.

I drive 80 miles a day in Northern California commute traffic in mine. The clutch and shifter in the C7 are very light, and I never find myself tiring of the manual, no matter how bad the traffic is.

I did have the opportunity to drive an A8 before making my final decision. It was a great car, but, I just couldn't do it.

OP - if you enjoy a manual, I wouldn't let an occasional traffic jam influence your decision.
