Default Tach Cable - 68 Only?

Just out of curiosity what's the difference between that and the later ones? I ordered the repair kit - so I'm not changing the jacket anyway.

Is there enough room to get the cable off the back of the tach? Or am I gonna have to slide the dash out a bit? I'm gonna pull the driver's seat regardless to get in there easier.
Thanks!

I don't know what the difference would be, if any. I had my dash on my 68 out and back in yesterday and was able to reach behind and connect the tach cable with no problem. I do think it might be easier to access on a non-AC car though.

You have to pull the gauge panel aside to reach the tachometer cable. When I had mine apart many years ago I discovered I could put the tachometer cable in from the distributor end of the housing which makes it very easy to lube or replace.

Don't quote me, but I recall the 68 cables screw into the back of the tach while they clip on for later years.

You're right. I forgot about the change to the clip on fitting from 69-74.

Hi CC,
If your doesn't have a/c (ducts), and isn't a convertible (cowl braces), I'd spend some time trying to reach up from below.

Taking care of everything that needs to be done to lower the column and pull the pad back and down so you can reach from the top isn't peasant.

This is a clip in cable but you can get an idea how far you have to reach.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Tachometer.

Access with column dropped but not removed.

also.

Just worked on one and it definitely was threaded on cable housing at the tach.

And the speedometer was also the same way.
