Default Chevrolet to Build the 2018 Corvette for Only 4 Months

That's due to the plant closing for retooling in August to restart in November and the plant beginning assembly of the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette on January 29, 2018

Annual Corvette production has only dipped below 10,000 units once since the late fifties. That was MY 1997 with 9.752 being produced.
They're forecasting 9,700 2018 units.

Several less than happy members waiting for an '18, on C7.
A few stated their intension to cancel, reorder a '19.
I can see their point whatwith an entire MY being severely abbreviated, they feel like they'll be driving an old Corvette shortly after taking delivery even tho' changes are virtually nonexistent.

Just as '84, Corvette lore re '18's low production #s is born.
We know the truth.

I hope to be in a position to purchase a new C8 in about 4 years. I intend to skip over the entire C7 thing.

Jeeeze ... At only 5 production years, the C7 didn't last very long at all

Only other short production run was the C2 ... also at 5 years

C2) 1963 - 1967 . . . 05 Years

C3) 1968 - 1982 . . . 15 Years

. . . * * No 1983 * *

C4) 1984 - 1996 . . . 13 Years

C5) 1997 - 2004 . . . 08 Years

I don't see the C8 coming this soon. They are selling way too many C7s to chunk all the tooling in the garbage. I know a lot of people are put off by the C7 styling but numbers don't lie and the C7 is selling like mad. My guess this is more in preparation for the ZR1 and to also make room for the mid-engine Cadillac (not C8 Corvette). IMHO of course.

well this doesn't look good for those of us that wanted a front as well as rear mid engine car.

Many were hoping of two 'vette platforms. Even crazier is the ZR1 only to be produced for a few months after all the development and teases.

Frankly, I am not so impressed with the C7 or the latest Camaro. I was hoping Chevy would have been inspired with the 2+2 Ferrari (like in 1970). I'd have purchased a new Camaro if Chevy would have used this styling:

I don't believe the shortened production cycle indicates a C8 coming out. We have only seen two prototype Corvette in the past year or so and that is the ZR1, which is style a C7. The Mid-engine if and when it is produce is still a C7. GM is not about to build a mid-engine as their only available Corvette and I have never seen to generation being built and sold at the same time.

Glad I bought a C6 when I did. I don't want anything to do with a mid engine car, they are nothing but trouble.

This is my plan as well if I have the cash flow and like the styling.

I thought it was of general interest. Since I have a C6, I posted it under C6 General Discussion.

However, I can see your point that perhaps the C7 section would have been more appropriate.

I can't see anything wrong in posting this thread here in the C6 forum.

Like the OP said ... General Interest

Totally agreed.

I wonder how much of it has to do with the new paint facility. This should allow them to do real pearl paints, and not have to mess with tintcoats. If you were changing half your paint colors, that'd be a great reason to do a whole new MY.

I'm with you. I think at the price it will be that there is room for the C7 to keep running and the mid engine to be a Cadillac. IMSA converted all of their P IMSA cars from Corvettes to Cadillacs. That tells me something.

What ever you do don't buy a first year mid engine Corvette if that's what it is. They'll let the public be their R&D department and I just can't imagine the problems they'll have with that car!

The ugly C7 will not cease to exist for 2019 -- a ME sports car from GM in 2018/19 will not stop the C7. It is far to ugly to stop now.
