Help on powerglide dust cover
Purchased an aftermarket/repro and it hits the flex plate.
Did the corvette have a specific cover and does anyone have one that will work?
Thanks

Any Chevy cover will work. Nothing unique about them

Does reproduction come into play. Do you have the tangs clipped into the oil pan

I took some pictures a few days ago of the powerglide out of my '62 Corvette. It's sitting on the ground so this was the best I could do. I zoomed in on the cover. If you think it might help I can try to get some better pictures.

Is the 'dust cover' you refer to actually the underpan assembly, below?
Or, is it the linkage splash shield, 2nd photo?
If underpan, service replacement is p/n is 3933089 (seems obsolete). However it is further identified as being "... 17-51/64 inches overall length ...". Not sure how that is measured, but perhaps you could examine yours for a similar dimension. The splash shield (p/n 3908110) is '66-'67 OEM only; you did not identify model year of your car.

99Silverbullet, when I restored my wife's 67 several years back, I ran into the same problem trying to find this pan. (the machine shop bent mine all to hell somehow when hot tanking it for cleaning). I ended up buying a nearly new one from a shop out in Calif. from a Powerglide rebuilding shop that specialized in racing Powerglides (can't recall the name of the shop). Local bone yards would not sell just the pan, rather they would sell you the whole transmission only. If there are any old bone yards nearby or local guys who still drag race with powerglides, you may get lucky. If not, search for transmission rebuilder shops (the large ones) to see what you may turn up. I'm sure you will be successful on finding an original one at a reasonable price.

Bought one off the web guaranteed to fit. Beat the crap out of it. My wife came out to remind me that my cardinal rule is that if you have to FORCE it you're doing it wrong or it just does not fit.
Next, I bought another metal one from a parts house and proceeded to beat the crap out of it(they were both so close!). Nope. Looked further in Jegs or Summit and one of them had a molded plastic fiber one that slipped in like a dream. If you paint it red or black no one will notice (unless they tap on it or put a magnet on it!) except it is a bit thicker than a metal pan. So you might want to go that route.
Makes no difference to me as I am putting a Muncie M-21 in it this month (I hope!).
Late "57 with a standard transmission originally. Probably will sell the pan & PG when 4 speed is in.
Good luck,
Dennis
P.S. And please wish me luck. I have not done this heavy work in 50 years! Just out of the Army BCT 1969 (Basic Combat Training for those not in the army) I would just bench press the trans into place. Now I've got a new trans jack and everyone I can round up to give me a hand!
