Default Corvettes at Lakeland Concours PHOTOS

My wife and I attended the Lakeland Florida Concours event this past Saturday. This is a great event held around Lake Mirror and in the adjacent downtown area. About 150 concours cars are displayed in the park setting around the lake, and hundreds of special interest and club cars take over the down streets that are blocked off. I share here some of the Corvettes in the concours and special interest areas. In the show were the Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell custom mid-years along with about a dozen other Corvettes. In the special interest area were the SR2 and the Betty Skelton racers. Dozens of other club Corvettes as well. I also include a few photos to illustrate the event.....well worth attending!

Wow! Some real Corvette history there and also a very nice mix of other cars. Not your run of the mill event. Thanks for the pics

Great pictures of a nice area and cars.
Three questions I need help with: 1> if that's Betty's '56 where are the rear fender scoops?; 2> why does it have a roll bar that it never had?; and 3> did the VIN appear on display card or anywhere else?

And I've always wondered how the trunk opened on the SR2.

Bill Tower is the owner of the SR2 and the Skelton car. I'm sure that he would be happy to answer your questions.

Thanks gilbybarr That's it. I rebuilt the engine for him a few years ago. It's a special car......................very low serial number.

Thanks for posting.

Wow, there were some stunning cars at that event.

Is this similar to Amelia Island? Invite only?

I believe its an invite or self nomination subject to review and invite. I have been to Amelia a few years ago....Lakeland is not at that level. Amelia is bigger and "fancier" for lack of a better term. That said, Lakeland is a great event...I would be happy to take one of our cars if we were closer (Knoxville is about a 12 hour drive). I would say Lakeland is on the same level as the Keeneland Concours (Lexington KY). I have had our '65 Corvette and our '63 Avanti at Keeneland...and won 2nd in class both times.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of the Keeneland Concours. That sounds like an interesting event as well. There's also a Concours d'Elegance of Texas. Unfortunately, all of these events are 9-12 hours from me. One day I will make them!

Here are a few photos that give you a sense of the quality of the cars at Keeneland....

Maybe I should see about taking the 54 Motorama Car down next year?
