Default Smaller steering wheel?

Guys

Have you ever felt you need a smaller, performance steering wheel but didn't want to quit airbag? Looks like we may have a solution for you :-)

We've started with a C6 and will hopefully post the results within no more than 2-3 weeks.

So far we have modified core and we are now working on the resin overlay. Here's the comparison of stock steering wheel with smaller, modified core - this should give you some hint of what to expect

What do you think? Is this something we should proceed with or maybe we're just wasting our time and OEM steering wheel is good enough?

Please let me know

Take care

Jack

05 is the one that could really use a smaller steering wheel.

Yep, but only if you can keep the price down on the new wheel that you can install on a 05 without having to change the clock spring to install the smaller later model wheels isntead..

Hence on a 05, you have to change out the clock spring to install a later model wheel, and it all about cost saving and time of just changing out the wheel and using your old air bag, or changing out to a new later model smaller wheel, used air bag, and the needed clock spring change out at well.

So really, something like a smaller OD DSV that you use your old air bag and clock spring could be the ticket isntead.

I like the idea of a smaller wheel. Any chance of a flat bottom, or adding some 10 and 2 notches?

The wheel for 05 cars will be made upon OEM 4-spoke 05 wheel (I have already purchased a few cores for R&D) so no worries here - it will just bolt on

Take care

How much smaller that the stock wheel, price, how soon will one be available, and do you have a photo of the intended over all design of the new wrap?

Definitely interested in a smaller steering wheel. Similar in size to the C7 would be perfect.

Yes please! Smaller wheel and little thicker, like BMW or even my dd 2016 volvo S60. That size snd thickness is perfect for me, i do not need flat bottom or notches. Flat bottom is not necessary in a smaller wheel anyhow!

Interested... smaller diameter w/o losing good grip thickness w/ subtle 10/2 notches...

I never knew this before, but I've learned that steering wheels are even built to an OE standard because bodies/faces head toward them in accidents. Not to mention that hands get a death grip on them. That would be my concern: does the wheel meet OE standards/specs, size notwithstanding?

Of course it does! Otherwise we wouldn't dare to offer it to you. The core is cut and welded back by a welder with 30+ years of experience in making custom car parts and the urethane resin overlay is built by a fabricator who makes steering wheels for some top tuning companies. So we are actually only the last stage of the process - just wrapping it in the leather of your choice

By the way - the prototype wheel is now built completely and only waiting to be wrapped Which should happen some day next week :-)

Here's what it looks like as of now:

What do you think?

I think it will be of some interest to prospective owners/buyers that it meets OE specifications at a smaller size.

I like it and would buy one if the price is right. Some of these custom wheels get crazy expensive

Please keep the info coming. Maybe once you get the prototype done, you can offer an introduction group buy for those of us willing to be the guinea pigs for this product.

Of course!

You can start building a GroupBuy list even now so that I can get prepared with enough cores

BTW - would this wheel be available with the 2012+ black trim on the steering wheel instead of the pre-2012 silver trim? Just curious what the configuration options might be. E.g., w/ bluetooth and w/out bluetooth?

Ideally I'd like a 2012 steering wheel without bluetooth that looks stock with the exception of the wheel diameter.
