Default Range Technology V8.4 Update

I've driven my '16 Stingray for well over 1000 miles with a Range device loaded with v8.4. I have started the car at least 20 times with the unit plugged in and the switch turned on. No CELs so far and no tranny locks or limp modes. I have also experimented with driving in ECO and Tour mode with the Range on and with it off. In a nutshell, I am finding that the mpg is reduced about 2 mpg when using the Range on the highway cruising between 65 and 80 mph. Around town I keep the Range on all the time to reduce the transition in and out of V4 mode. Gas mileage does not seem to be affected as much with stop and go driving. I also enjoy the way the car drives staying in V8 mode all the time during in town driving. With the Range turned off on the highway, the transition in and out of V4 mode is almost seamless and I can usually not detect it unless I am watching the DIC screen. In summary, I am very satisfied with the performance of the Range device. It is doing exactly what it is designed to do.

2016's haven't had a problem since 8.2.

it's 2017's and newer that have a problem.

Go to Range Technology website. Buy directly from them to ensure it is new and eligible for free firmware updates. You pay for shipping. I have heard horror stories when buying off eBay and even from vendors on Amazon.

Is v8.4 a beta or production release rev? How long has it been available?

I ask the Range rep about an Ebay purchase. She said these dealers were not "authorized" dealers, and that they couldn't warranty the product, or guarantee an update if I wanted one. So, I ordered from the company.

I just received mine from range direct last week for my 17 GS. Keeps going into limp mode and not shifting after about on hour of driving and setting off check engine code.

Dang, that sucks.

I have a 2016 and had the Range for two years now and only had one problem of it going into limp mode and a check engine light. So not bad for all that time of use.

I was going to send it in for the latest software update but sounds like it would be a waste of time and money.

I keep beta testing and they keep not fixing the 2017 issues....but I'll keep trying, I want it to work without a switch.

Maxie, I have the 8.2 version with a switch running in my '16. I have purposely left it on this last week (driving it everyday), and after many starts all has been well. Just some info if you do send yours for an update.

BTW, our friend "rmorin1249" has the 8.4 version on his '16 also without any problems.

Ship it to a friend or relative in another state, then have them mail it to you.

Do they also regulate what kind of underwear you can buy? No way I could live there.

I bought one off a forum member and had it shipped to CA to get around that. Even though I didn’t purchase direct they still upgraded it for me.
