Default Secondary cooling Radiator for ZO6

Looking to install the GM Secondary cooling radiator on my M7 2015 ZO6. Where is the best place to buy in terms of pricing??
I know it does not void warranty but does a GM tech have to install it so warranty is still valid? Finally, any idea on what it cost to install if you are not a do it yourself guy? Any videos out there on the installation process?

I got mine in Feb this year for $775 (they had a sale going on).

I just took a quick look online and many different parts outfits have it for around $800 to $850 plus shipping.

Google the GM part #'s to see what you can do.

I just looked on eBay and I think the best you might do is through forum vendor Cultrag. Search eBay for the part # and you'll see they have it for $840 with free shipping.

GM part #'s: original 84201727; current 84309470

They're both the same kit, just got a new part# for some reason.

It's a fairly easy installation - I did mine in about 3 hours taking my time. You install it from underneath. I have a lift which made it easy, but if you can get the front up off the ground 18 inches or so you may be able to do it, but I recommend finding a lift.

Below is a picture from forum vendor Cultrag's eBay listing for the 84309470 part#:

Check several of the forum GM parts suppliers and find out the price of the cooler shipped to you. Then go to your local parts department and see if they will match the price. Most of the time they will. Better to make a sale for a lower price Vs not make the sale at all.

The cooler is simple to install and only requires connecting cooling system hoses plus cutting a hole in the bottom of the radiator duct behind the grille. Other than cutting the hole and removing some panels to gain access it is about as difficult to install as changing coolant.

You don't open any oil lines so have no chance of getting dirt into the oil system and screwing up the bearings.

I almost think it worthwhile having the dealer install it for warranty purposes. 3 hours labour and parts?

I don't have any fear they would have a warranty issue if you installed it yourself. The car would have to over heat the coolant with a corresponding major engine failure. Then they would have to show the installation leaked coolant or coolant flow was blocked by improper installation causing the over heat condition and subsequent failure.

People install aftermarket radiators in place of the factory radiator all the time without having warranty issues and this is less obvious than an aftermarket radiator.

Three hours labor at the dealer's special project labor rate adds up to a nice chunk of change that could be spent on tires.

I just installed mine a couple of weeks ago. Cultrag was the cheapest through ebay. If you're going to get a dealer to do it I'd buy the parts from the dealer. It was an easy install. I ended up pulling the whole front clip off because after taking all of the screws that had to be removed off the underside there were only a few more to remove the entire front section and have really easy access to the baffle that had to be cut. I used the factory template and all the holes lined up and the hoses were the correct length. I used a heat gun to loosen the hose connected under the engine and to heat the hose that I installed and it was an easy install. I had my 12 y/o helping me and I explained it all to him but it only takes a few hours. I felt more comfortable doing it myself than trusting the dealer mechanic to do it correctly.

The A8's have the exact same radiator in the exact same place - but it's plumbed differently. The A8 heat exchanger is for the transmission.

Because it's in the same place the secondary engine coolant radiator for the M7 goes, you can't install the secondary radiator in an A8 Vette.

It was added to the 2017 model year M7 Vettes as a additional radiator for engine coolant.

A lot of us with earlier model years (I have a 2016 M7) added the secondary radiator to help with engine cooling.

Here's a picture of mine after I installed it. If you have an A8 car, if you look into your grill you should see the exact same heat exchanger laying flat - but it's for transmission cooling rather than engine cooling. 2016 and earlier M7 cars have a flat composite piece where you see my secondary radiator installed. I needed to cut it open in order to install the secondary radiator there. I didn't remove the front fascia - it was an easy install from underneath without removing it:

So as far as extra cooling the 16 A8's will need to look at aftermarket kits that use additional cutouts on the bumper cover.

Any model year A8 C7 Z06 so far produced needs after market assistance to run at WOT (you guys know what I mean) for a 20-25 minute HPDE event, unless perhaps it’s 40dF ambient.

Default Installation - Bleeding Cooling System

How difficult was to refill the colorant system and bleed the air out?
The install instructions provided really doesn't go into detail.

You're probably thinking about the intercooler system. You don't drain that when you add the secondary radiator. The instructions for filling come with the kit but you basically just drain the old coolant into a clean bucket, install the secondary radiator, pour the old coolant back into the engine and then run the engine a bit and then fill the coolant to the correct level.

So, just to get this straight, all the 2017 to 2019 M7 cars come factory equipped with the auxiliary radiator?
