Road & Track article on C5 desirability
At the Barber shop this weekend I picked up the November 2017 issue of Road and Track. Very nice article on the C5 being not only a great sports car but a good value as well:

This is an abbreviation of the printed article, but I found it a great read and encouraging on the likelihood of well maintained C5's appreciating in value from this point forward. If you get a chance, look for the full article, it's worth the time.

This has been posted before. I do think the C5 has about bottomed out in price and may see some rebound (appreciation), especially for those low mileage, highly optioned and mint condition examples.

I'm already seeing that. I check the classifieds almost daily, and I have seen prices rise on the garage queens. I'd say prices are up $1K to $2K over the prices I was seeing around a year ago. Pre '01 garage queens are now priced where "01+ were priced, and "01+ are now priced with the Z06s. Now these are asking prices, and I have no idea what these cars are actually selling for, but the asking prices are definitely up. 30K miles seems to be the dividing line. Anything less than that and the seller seems to think this makes the car a museum showpiece and is therefore worth MUCH more money.

There are some great bargains out there for C5’s. If I had the space I would have another.

I doubt we'll see the majority of C5's appreciate in value anytime soon, with the exception of some of the more rare offerings (Z06, Commemorative, Etc.) . Even then, it will mostly be ultra low mileage garage queens . That being said, don't expect any of them to go much lower either.

Nearly every person who compliments my car follows it up with "too bad you can't take the top like the special ones" like the hard top was a bare bones base option or something.

Grampi, yes, I see prices all over the map.
As for the commemoratives, I don’t think they will rise that much. There were a ton of them made. I know of someone who bought one new, it probably has less than 3k miles on it and he thinks its going to be worth a million someday. (Read more than he paid?)

I used to get the same thing. Tho’ I now like the targa removal feature, I can easily live without it.

An '03 with less than 3K miles? What a waste of a fine automobile for all of those years!

Nope they are definitely going up. I follow along pretty closely and have a family member at Hagerty who I was talking to on this and he indicated a 2.3% increase in their replacement balance contingency on C5's compared to 2016. To be specific that was on my 2000 FRC. While 2.3% might not sound like much its actually very rare to see an increase in replacement values (outside of collector cars, antiques etc).

It'll be a few years at least before they start to climb again. It a plastic mass production car, not an old Bugatti.

Nah, I see them as low as 4k now with work needed. They'll continue to drop a little more around the holidays, stabilize and drop some more when the new ZR1 in released, because a new influx of them will hit the market.

Fiberglass, urethane and PVD are all "plastic" theres a reason most vettes carry the "plastic fantastic" nick name.

Insurance value and market value do not always run horizontally. I've been flipping cars for over a decade and I watch CL and ebay like a hawk. The market shows the prices are going down, for both the C5 and C6, which directly impact the value of one another. EVERYTHING for these cars are dropping in price, used parts and aftermarket.

FWIW, I've been watching ALL of the for sale sites and I have been seeing higher prices for C5s...
