Thinking about running away with the vette, cell turned off for a week
I wonder if any of you have tried this before in a Corvette (or any other car you liked a lot or even a motorcycle). Take a few paid days off of work, turn off your cell phone and just drive to places you have never been to with just you, your ride and yourself while you visit small restaurants, motels and no one to bother you about the stress of life. I am thinking of doing this in a z06 (that has full coverage insurance on it with roadside assistance of course and my trusty Springfield XDm with me along every step of the journey for a week. Any advice? Anyone did this before? If so how did you like it? A little soul searching with a high horsepower car and no one to bother me during my journey of getting close with MYSELF.

I did that several times when I used to ride. I planned the roads ahead, because I didn't want to end up on bike-unfriendly roads.
I get away 1-2 weeks a year comping on the beach by myself. Very rewarding experience.
I will do the same with my Vette. However, I think it will be wise to plan the roads ahead. Nice sports car tends to attract unwanted attention, and no one wants to be in the wrong place.

Yes, and no.
I've done many trips by myself, some weeks at a time. However, my family would flip a lid if I went off the grid to do them.

I don't need to take days off. I've been self employed over 25 years. No one owns my time. No need to make believe here.

Sure I have, often... easy for me since I don't own a cell-phone!

Something bothering you that you need to leave your cell, but take your pistol? Just asking.

Wow!
The guy just wants to get away. Who hasn't?
If he wanted to do away with himself, I don't think he would have considered personal safety, such as roadside assistance, or restaurant considerations. It sounds like he has never ventured far from home in a car, and is asking for advice how to do so from folks who have done road trips, by THEMSELVES.

No that sounds like a fun time. Just think that's how our parents took their vacations. No phones!

Sounds like a lot of fun. I work in sales, so I can appreciate the need to be alone for awhile.
Plan your route carefully, especially if you plan to be packin’. Some states think the second amendment is only for for flint lock muskets.

Sounds like a great Idea,

I found theses Butler Motorcycle Maps an interesting idea.
The concept is good but I have never used them. However, they should be good for "Finding New Roads".

My rule is: if you are going somewhere dangerous enough that you think you need to pack heat, then you shouldn't go there.
It's America, not Afghanistan.
As for the crux of the question: yes. I did this recently with my trip to Spring Mountain and an extra couple of days in Vegas. I turned on the phone at night to call my wife, then turned it back off.
I did a couple of trips like this (just headed out with no plan) back in 2000-2001 and had a great time.

Enjoy your trip.
I personally don't leave home without my firearm. Some people don't understand that things can happen anywhere. To me a firearm is like a seatbelt. It is something that I would rather have and never need instead of needing and not having it.
People don't understand that they intentionally target higher end cars and locations because of the valuables and possessions are of more value.
Some people prefer to live in a care free world.
Enjoy your trip and be safe.

If I were to do it I would not return!
I always carry, so I would definitely take my favorite carry. I just don't go to any of the commie States. If I cannot carry, I don't go there and don't contribute to their stickin' economies.

Yes, do it. I've turned off the phone now for more than 20 years... and just gone... I'm retired so I can go when I want. I put 15-18K miles on the C7 annually, splitting the DD duties with an old Ferrari on which I put about 10K a year on.....
Leaving tomorrow morning as a matter of fact - gone about 10 days.... will take phone as I have a heart condition, but it will remain off. Will check texts once a day.

Have done so four times in the past six years, going cross-country (AZ to NY or GA), but not in the C7. Different route each time. Drove a BMW 3Coupe to GA in 2011 to experience Tail of the Dragon. The other trips were in a Lexus GS350. Most recent was last August to NY. I debated taking the C7, but happy I didn't because of road conditions in the midwest and east. However, next summer I think I'll take the C7. Solitude is therapy for me.
