Default C4 (L98) Parts help

Hello,
I am new to this forum and i am a new owner of a Corvette C4 with the L98 engine. I bought the car as a project car as it was a little beat up from the previous owner who tried to refurbish it but ended up taking a lot of short cuts and putting different year models of corvette parts onto this C4, Result, i have no idea the exact year of manufacture because the VIN number doesn't have the information since of course it was imported in 1995. i believe it to be from the 80's (1986/87) due to the interior design and some of the parts from the engine. the exterior on other hand is from the 90's so it is difficult to say. not even mechanics can work out exactly.

Regardless of all of that, i am looking to replace the parts in the engine with more new parts to make the car reliable as getting official parts is a fortune + postage costs and they are only reconditioned so i am kind of sceptical. I am ideally looking for Aftermarket custom performance parts to replace the old ones in my engine. I was hoping some of you Corvette lovers out there would know a lot more then i would.

Corvette C4 Coupe (230Bhp) (L98) (Automatic)

The parts i am currently looking for to replace/add are as follows;

- Alternator
- Radiator & all coolant methods
- Air intake/Filter
- Turbo
- Performance breaks (disc + pads)
- Plus anything else you recommend for me to add/replace. i don't mind the cost because i intent to make this car a thing of beauty over the years.

(All body work, paint modifications i can do myself but when it comes to elcetronics i dont have a clue so i am relying on you professionals to link me in the right direction)

Thank you

This car will have a 17 digit VIN in the lower left corner of the windshield/windscreen as well as there's information on the right side engine block for ward of the cylinder head.

There's lots of help here on the forum.

You might post some snapshots of the engine compartment. There's possibly enough information on the alternator housing to ID the alternator correctly.

Post the 17 digit VIN and let's see what you've got!!

You might also mention your 'LOCATION' and maybe include it in your 'profile' that would appear under your 'USER ID'.

I intend to take the engine apart, clean it. spray selected parts a Black, Silver or Red style. And replace it back with the custom parts installed.

Looks like the VIN is for a 1995. https://www.b-dautoparts.com/VIN-1G1...01418-see-data

Interesting piece for sure. The VIN is from a '95. The engine for sure is an 'L98 - I'd think an early car with a later VIN tag riveted to the dash maybe.

If you've got valid registration in whatever country then maybe it's not an issue at all. If it's not registered presently I don't believe I'd do a thing until it's actually registered.

In the UK I'd think you're likely going to have registration issues.

There are UK users/members here on the CF so maybe someone will best advise how you proceed.

There's many ways to ID the chassis but presently I'd think that's not an issue. Visually the snapshots hint '89 or maybe '88 since the ECM tray looks to have never been there.

To JimLentz,

Thanks that's great to know, but i am so confused when i look for images of 1995 corvettes they look completely different on the inside. mine has the interior of a 1986 model. I did but the car on impulse because i love all american cars so i didnt do any research on corvettes before i bought ill admit.

To WVZR-1,

It is registered, i have the car taxed and insured. but the only information they have about the car is as follows; Corvette C4 (Black) Coupe 5.7ltr V8 (1995). Thats it. i paid for a background check on the car.

Registered then you only need to be concerned with ID of the engine etc.

Suspensions need to be ID'd for the future. If the car has caliper applied rear e-brake you could assume '88 or newer. If it has 'shoe in rotor' e-brake then it's '87 or earlier. there will be for sure I'd think information on the right fron of block forward of cylinder head to ID the engine.

Odd Vin 1995, Motor Early 85/86 Iron Head L-98. Someone do a Bang up job of putting L-98 in.

I cant imagine a LT-1 Style Motor swap out to L-98 needed for an Import?

To WVZR-1,

I guess by that information if i am reading it correctly the corvette is 88+ because there are disc brake calipers front and rear. again hopefully i am reading you correctly. there is also another issue with it, there is a hand brake but theres no wire at all so i have to rely on the P brake on the automatic gear box.

To s carter,

Yeah this is what i am saying, i am very confused to what i actually have but no matter. as long as the car is still a "Corvette" i am willing to look passed the bang up job the guy before me did, i am a perfectionist. but admittedly i know nothing about mechanics or auto electrics.
Thats why im posting on this site to get information, advice and hopefully recommended parts to help me improve, upgrade and remaster this car.

Cooling system is from the earlier models as there is no the "filler" reservoir mounted on top near the fire wall.

Is there a way to post more pictures please? Body panels, interior...etc?

Also, look under the center console as there is a sticker that list the options for the car and an additional VIN number.

All C4 have 4 wheel disc but e-brake is different. Looking at your snapshots I see an EMISSIONS STICKER on the radiator shroud and a label on the booster. Post snapshots of those and I'd think one could make a better assumption of what chassis maybe!

I based the '88 - '89 guess on the master cylinder but '85 also maybe had the dual reservoirs like on your car.

Even the A/C lines are the 86 Style with the Large Pressure Switch, It's like a 86 Fire Wall forward replacement. even the Master Cylinder is the 2 Chamber Gerlock

The radiator is 'vertical' so that eliminates any thoughts of '90 or later forward of the firewall.

A SPID on the console door is certainly a maybe!!

OP - what's on the back-side of the console door?

Huh....

Well the body panels scream '95 but your interior and engine say late 80's. Your emissions stickers is late 80's L98 for sure.

My guess is that someone went to great pains to "update" the look as body panels are way easier to swap verses an engine and interior.

Well, "it is what it is..." Body panel updates are (fairly) common so no worries.

looks clean!
