This issue appears to have been completely resolved with version 8.6. If you purchased directory from Range, you can get it upgraded to the latest version at no charge.

I think this question can be answered two different ways. If you have a lot of miles on your car, as opposed to very few miles. I have a 2017 with 2000 miles on it and I never drove it in auto till I had my Range installed. If you have 20,000 miles on your car you can not equate the failure of the Range device as the cause of a possible TC failure because you have driven 20,000 miles without one, unless you only drove in manual.

No one is saying that the range will stop you from having a problem, it is only a theory that this device will stop the TC from failure.

To date I believe this is a logical attempt to stop this from happening.

GM is forced by the EPA to achieve certain mileage data which in turn requires them to provide a AFM system. Unfortunately they have and are failing to resolve the problem which the AFM system is causing.

Range Technology has solved the AFM problem by eliminating it. Range Technology has great customer service and will provide free upgrades when necessary for life. They will not warrantee/ free upgrades, if you buy from EBAY or other sellers.

Kev4,

I see you have a 2017
Does the newest firmware seem to fix the CEL issue?
I guess winter would be a good time to swap mine for upgrade

I too have been watching threads on TC issue and Range. I have a 2016 that went into service 09/23/2016 and now has 1055 miles on it. I hadn't driven it since March when I took it off the lift and drove it for three days. On the second day I was driving @ about 35 when the started feeling like I was driving over a cobblestone road. Anyway, it only did it once . So I'm thinking that if I keep the car past the DL warranty I'll buy a GMEPP. I don't want to drive the car in paddle mode all the time so the Range seems like a reasonable way to avoid the problem by not using what causes it. With the reviews of the 8.6 I'm most likely going to give it a try......

You don't have to read the thread if you would rather not. Other people would like to stay current with this extremely important device which may alleviate a future problem of which GM has not remedied.

Just sayin

I posted the link to the other thread to provide the most current info. It's easier to stay current by reading the current existing thread(s) with all of the current information. This way you get the info you want/need, you see the history, and the current status, and those of us who have been testing and keeping up with it, don't have to repeat all of the info again (which gets annoying and is a waste of time, not to mention having to correct incorrect info that keeps coming up)

Just sayin
