Default 383 Stroker build LS1 Aluminum block, you?

If you've looked into this there is only 2 piston sizes out there, 3.903 and 3.905. 3.905 seems to have more off shelf options. I'm looking to land in the mid 11's-12 for compression. I'd like to buy a balanced rotation assembly. What have you done, seen, prefer? Street and HPDE use.

I’m sure if you look hard enough you could find pistons for the stock bore. I know diamond will make you some if you like.
That said, with only .002” difference in the oversizes available, I don’t think it really matters.

Have you checked with WS6store.com?
They offer many options and can put together a custom kit.

I think the reason why they are in those sizes is because they expect you to hone the cylinder bore.

I recently looked into stroking, and I found a very good DIY article (can't find it again for some reason). In any case, they explained that you will want to hone the cylinder bores if you want longevity on the engine. The two sizes you listed are the most common dimensions honed to.

I guess I should have clarified my situation. I have to open the bores up because of wear. I'm reading that the ls1 Aluminum blocks the 5.7 has thin liners so the 3.903 3.905 are really one of the last stops before the block is junk! New liners are not a viable option if you've read into how the liners are cast into these ls1 aluminum blocks. I'm kind of up in the air if honing and other machine work necessary VS. price of a new short block or bare LS2 make this even worth it. My buddy is a Wisco dealer but I'm trying to stay away from custom order with the price jump? I got my finger in the trigger I just want a solid outcome. I see 383 Wisco complete stroker kits on EBay for under $1900 unbalanced of course. No answer from seller which model Wiseco piston. Guessing not the professional series!

Might as well get something from Texas Speed at that price.

Yes agreed! Now the question is the block. About $ 700 in machine work between cylinder work and main bearing caps .

Some good info for you...I bought a 01z from a guy. He got rid of the ls1 and put a brand new 05 LS2 block with LS6 TEA ported heads 340cfm flow, with comp cam 239/247 624/624 lift. 102 intake, 414 callies stroker kit, bore is 4.2X I believe(somewhere in that range, I forget). Compression is 11.5:1, currently makes 560rwhp/530 tq. The builder told me I could throw a set of Mast 255 or TFS 255, with a different cam and make over 600 rwhp NA. You can pick up alittle extra HP over the LS6 heads with LS3 heads, so I have been told.

Those flow #'s as are the HP #'S are large! I actually bought a 127 mile (not a typo) LS3. I figured in 2 or 3 seasons I can build off a better platform. For the price I couldn't resist

Damn 127 miles! Yeah the numbers are real and correct. Sadly the heads are maxed out currently and the next best upgrade(per the builder) is 255 heads. I have went to Mexican a few times and the look on the drivers face after, was priceless. They really didn't expect to see a C5 pull on them like it did lol. They thought it just had a cam and maybe heads.

If you do it, please share your experience! I've looked a zillion times at doing the same thing - where I get jammed up is that I start thinking maybe to stroke an LS2 block instead if I'm going to all that trouble... plus there seems to be a lot better head choices readily available for the larger bore (LS2 / LS3) engines than the LS1 / LS6 these days.

Man, it sure sounds fun, though...

Good luck!

Jeff

Since someone brought this back from the dead. I have a question. Will the stock fuel system keep up with a stroked motor?

stock fuel system is max around 475 to 525ish or somewhere around there. With any engine size. Could be a 600 cubic doesn't matter
